Hadith of the Day
Usually I spend some of my daily free time, just reading hadiths and I've noticed there are so many beautiful hadith.
So, in this thread, I'll post one hadith per day.
I'm sure that some people will post certain hadiths to get their own kicks, but overall, I'm hoping for a nice, peaceful thread.
The Prophet Mohammad pbuh has been narrated to have said to Abu Dharr:
Sitting an hour in a learned gathering is better in the eyes of Allah then a thousand nights in each which a thousand prayers are performed, and better then engaging in battle for the sake of Allah on a thousand occasions, or better then reciting the whole of the Qoraan twelve thousand times, or better than a whole year of worship where one fasts on all the days and spends the nights in prayer. If one leaves one's house with the intention gaining knowledge, for every step that he takes, Allah shall bestow upon him the reward reserved for a Prophet, and the reward accorded to a thousand martyrs of [the Battle of] Badr. And for every word that he hears or writes, a city shall be set aside for him paradise.

There have been many such shortlived threads, but I'll give some input:

Hey good idea trance .
SK, that second Hadith you posted is my favourite too. I just love the second part of it that says no one can harm or benifit you except God. What a beautiful hadith. That's actually the wisdom that I most hold dear.

It is narrated that the Prophet Mohammad pbuh has said:
The similitude of the learned on earth is like that of the stars: people take them as a guide in the darkness of the land and sea; if they are blotted ot, then those being guided will soon lose their way.

It is narrated that Imam Ja'far as-Sadeq has said:
One who desires to know whether his prayers have been accepted or not should observe if his prayers have restrained him from evil and sinful acts. (If yes,) then the measure in which they restrained him is the measure of his prayers that have been accepted.

A Word of Wisdom from Prophet of Islam (s.a.w.w):
“The Archangel Gibraeel descended to the Messenger of Allah and said: Verily the Almighty Allah has sent a gift for you that has never been given (to that extent) to anyone before you.
The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w.w) said: What is it?
He said: PATIENCE. To be patient in sorrow as you are patient in joy, and in poverty as you are patient in prosperity, and in distress as you are patient in comfort so much so that he does not complain to his fellow humans.”
Wasa’el al-Shi’a vol.15 p.194

This hadith scares me. It really makes me wonder how many of my prayers have been accepted, considering the amount of sin I have committed.

Volume 9, Book 93, Number 502:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "Allah says: 'I am just as My slave thinks I am, (i.e. I am able to do for him what he thinks I can do for him) and I am with him if He remembers Me. If he remembers Me in himself, I too, remember him in Myself; and if he remembers Me in a group of people, I remember him in a group that is better than they; and if he comes one span nearer to Me, I go one cubit nearer to him; and if he comes one cubit nearer to Me, I go a distance of two outstretched arms nearer to him; and if he comes to Me walking, I go to him running.' "

it is narrated that Imam Jafar as-Sadeq has said:
Knowledge cannot be acquired by learning, rather real knowledge is the light which illuminates a person's heart who is blessed with His guidance. Therefore, if you are seeker of the knowledge, first make your heart comprehend the reality of (God's) serventhood, then request knowledge by means of deeds, and ask God-Almighty for comprehension so that he could make you understand.

It is narrated that the Messenger of Allah pbuh has said:
Never get angry, for anger contains opposition to your Lord. Beware of making excuses, for they contain hidden polytheism. Say your prayers like someone saying farewell, for it contains a link to Allah (SWT) and nearness to Him. Be modest before Allah (SWT) as you are modest before the righteous among your neighbours, for this contains increased certainty.

Imam Jafar as-Sadeq has been narrated to have said:

The Holy Prophet pbuh said: "O' Ali! Gabriel wished to become a human being for seven reasons, which are:
1-Congregational prayer.
2-Companionship with scholars.
3-Establishing peace between two persons.
4-Honouring the orphans.
5-Visiting the sick.
6-Attending a funeral procession.
7-Giving of water to Pilgrims.
Then, be desirous of these things."

Imam al-Rida has cited his forefathers quoting the Messenger of Allah pbuh as saying that Allah says:
"O children of Adam! You all have strayed except those whom I have guided; you all are poor except those whom I enriched; you all shall be annihilated except those whom I shall save; so, plead to Me, and I shall give you sufficiently and guide you to the right path of your guidance. Among My believing servants are those who can be improved [spiritually] only when impoverished: If I enrich them, wealth will spoil them. Among My believing servants are those who cannot be improved except if I grant them good health: If I permit them to fall sick, it will spoil them. Among My believing servants are those who exert an effort to worship Me, spending their night praying, so I cause them to be drowsy out of My own kindness to them. They would sleep till the morning and leave the bed self-loathing, self-indicting. But had I permitted them to do what they wanted to do, they would have felt proud of their deed, so they would cause their own souls to perish on account of such pride and feeling of being pleased with themselves, thinking they have surpassed all worshippers and excelled in their endeavor beyond the limit of those who fall short. It is then that they grow distant from Me while thinking they are getting closer to Me. None should rely on their own deeds even if they are good, nor should the sinners lose hope [of My mercy] no matter how many sins they have committed. But let them trust in My mercy and hope for My favor. Let them be content with My looking well after them; I deal with My servants in ways which are best for their own good, and I am Munificent towards them, fully knowledgeable."
(Bihar al-Anwar, Vol. 68, p. 140).

t is narrated that the Prophet Mohammad pbuh has said:
O Abu Dhar! As long as you are in prayer you are knocking at the door of the King of the world and whoever knocks at the door of such king, the door will be opened to him. O Abu Dhar! When a believer stands in prayer, he will be showered with good as much as his distance to Allah's throne, and Allah will assign him an angel saying, "O son of Adam! Should you know what lies in your prayer and whom you are invoking, you will never get tired nor will you turn to anything else."

The Holy Prophet pbuh said:
He who searches for knowledge is similar to a person who fasts during the day and keeps vigil at night and is busy worshipping. If a person acquires a branch of knowledge, it is better for him than possessing as much gold as the height of Abu Qobais Mount which he would distribute in the way of Allah.

It’s narrated that Imam Sadiq said:
“During Judgment Day, as a slave is being taken to hellfire, he looks back. Allah (swt) then says: Bring him back. When he arrives, Allah asks him: Why did you look back at Me? The slave says: Ya rab… This wasn’t the way I thought [you would deal with me]. Allah the exalted, then, says: Then how did you think about Me? He says: Ya rab… I thought You were going to forgive me and that You were going to make me dwell in Your paradise by your mercy. Allah the exalted says: “Oh my angels… I swear by Glory and Magnificence, and my bounties and my ordeals, and my Highness in My place; this slave never thought of me in a good way, not even for a moment. Had he thought that way for just a moment I would have NEVER frightened him with fire. Ignore his lie and take him to paradise."

When Sa'd Ansari responded to the Holy Prophet pbuh.gif that his hands were calloused because he used to work with a rope and a shovel to earn money to spend for his wife and children, he pbuh kissed his hand (as an honour) and said: "This is a hand which the Fire (of Hell) will never touch."
Usd-ul-Ghabah, vol. 2, p. 269

It is narrated that Imam Jaafar as-Sadeq has said:
He who devotes his heart to this world will be subjected to three conditions: endless grief, unquenchable desire, and futile hope.

The Prophet Mohammad pbuh said:
"God Almighty said: `By My Honour, My Glory, My Greatness, My Light, My Loftiness, and by the Highness of My Station! When My slave gives preference to his desire over My wish, I put his affairs into confusion, make his life baffling in this world and his heart preoccupied with the world, although I do not give him anything of it except what I have preordained for him. And by My Honour, My Glory, My Greatness, My Light, My Loftiness and by the Highness of My Station! If My slave prefers My wish to his desire, My angels protect him, the heavens and the earth guarantee his sustenance, and I look after his trade and bring the world to him though it should be reluctant and recalcitrant.'"
[Wasail al-Shia'h, vol. 2, p. 335.]

Volume 7, Book 64, Number 265:
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, "The one who looks after a widow or a poor person is like a Mujahid (warrior) who fights for Allah's Cause, or like him who performs prayers all the night and fasts all the day."
