    Red face What happens when you binge eat?

    Could anyone tell me what happens to your body when you binge eat for a meal? I'm pretty serious about lifting, but couldn't resist when my friend told me about this new place with all you can eat wings for $8. i challanged him to an eating contest and ended up eating 40 wings. i figured if each wing is about 50 calories, that's ATLEAST 2000 calories in 1 sitting! i'm not worried or anything because i know i'll drop the weight quickly, but was just curious what happens when your body goes into calorie overdrive city..

    this isnt 100% entirely true as it depends on body type and your training as well as the amount you exceeded your daily maintanence level.

    Don't beat yourself up about it too much man. The occasional slip up won't net you 30 lbs overnight. Just trim a few calories off your next couple of days cut routine and you'll be kosher.

    well i'm a meso, and currently bulking at about 3100-3500 calories/day. i didn't really keep track of my calories today but i think the wings bumped me up to over 4000. i just wanted to know specifics such as brain signals from overeating, protein synthesis, fat storage, etc. all the technical scientific stuff you know

    So you had less than 1000 excess calories. Probably not much happened. Maybe you gained about 1/4 a pound of fat and 1/8 a pound of muscle. Sorry , I'm not too technical.

    Saturday NIGHT I ate 4.5 cups raw oats with 5 cups of milk, 2 cups of almonds, and 1 cup of raisins alont with 2 homemade muffins. Today, I look just as ripped as friday night. Thats my answer

    I believe if you are bulking and not too considerned about body fat, that every once in a while it is a good idea to eat huge amounts.

    Also when you are cutting.

    Your body has a normal state that it always is trying to get back to. If you let it get to used to anything, diet or exercise you will start seeing decreased effectivness.

    This is why alot of people have high and low carb days. Or every 2 weeks they will have an extremley high carb day.

    I have no evidence to back this up, but I think the same logic can be applied to fat, and protein also.

    lol don't sweat it... binges kcik start my fat loss. Last week I got fed up becuase I was on a 2 MONTH FAT LOSS PLEATUE! I changed up everything, routine, diet, type of cardio! I even added extra calories with no change, subracted with no change... then last week, I had a HUGE binge (on purpose)... and I gained 2 pounds. 2 pounds were off 2 days later... water weight probably. I checked my weight yesterday, lost 1 1/2 pounds, it worked!

    you could only eat 40 wings? man.. shoot for at least a 50 piece next time. but yeah dont get upset over it, everyone needs a good cheat meal every once in a while to remain sain.

    Binge eating is counterproductive to a BB. Look, you space out your meals 5-6 per day for a reason. And that is to send a constant macronutrient profile of protein, carbs and fats through the body to fuel the muscles. It's that simple. Now, if you diet hardcore and give yourself one or two cheat meals per week (as I do) that is good for your metabolism and will not hinder gains or produce bodyfat. But binge eating will only serve to make you look smooth and soft, if not down right out of shape.

    A couple weeks ago i went with my family to this delicious chinese all you can eat buffet and stuffed myself till i couldent fit anoter bite in me. I seriously never ate that much in one sitting. Felt very guilty after that on but i havent cheated since then.

    that is somewhat true as it depends:

    a) how often

    b) how much

    c) what you binge on



    a) I agree that binging frequently is counterproductive but when dieting, binging within means of your caloric maintanence (not exceeding 20%) can be very productive in boosting metabolism and causing the body to think it is in a 'fed' state


    b) Again the term 'binging' is a relative term as different foods yield different calories from a binge
    ex: a binge on broccoli vs a binge on banana bread


    c) Similar as before, WHAT you eat is just as important as the AMOUNT


    Moral of the story: binging can be productive when dieting to shock the metabolism if it is done once every 1.5-2 weeks one day of binging in 1 week is not going to make you look out of shape, the only thing that might happen aside from a boost in metabolism is water weight, which goes away once dieting resumes

    i think everyone may have a different definition of binging, some say it is eating till you puke, while other say just a slight overfeed.
