How Do Prison Dudes Get Massive and Cut Without Good Nutriont?

I know this might be a topic that has been discussed too much, but this really puzzles me. I am totally ignorant about what is accessbile in jail or what is not. But I would assume there are no protein powders in jail and that the nutrition is not what many on this site would consider conducive to quality mass gains in muscle. And since weight training breaks muscles down, what do these guys do to recover and get that massive and ripped.

I think it boils down to, if you spend years lifting hard all the time and eating a lot, you will see results without anything close to a perfect diet. its just not the most efficient way to go about it. also, many of those guys were probably ripped and massive before they went to prison in the first place.
    12/13/05 -- 193 lbs, 30% bf
    02/01/06 -- 188 lbs, 23% bf
    04/05/06 -- 187 lbs, 17% bf
    05/01/06 -- 182 lbs, 15% bf
    05/25/06 -- 177 lbs, 14% bf ; start fish oil ; start sesamin ; start cAMPHIBOLIC

Goal: to give myself a whole new body for my birthday this year (12/13/06). 180 lbs, 10% bf. 5'8".

If high reps low intensity worked, typing would've made me huge and lean.

Well, there are 3 main components for building lean mass -

    1. Lift Heavy
    2. Eat over maintenance
    3. Rest

1 and 3 are available in large amounts, with Free Weights being almost the only option and rest being mandated 23 hours a day in many cases. As for caloric excess, sitting around all day makes maintenance a lot lower, and additional food can often be purchased through the prison commissary.

So I guess the prison dudes have no need to eat lean steak, brown rice, and greens to build that mass...

Well, you don't have alot to do in prison, so recovery is way faster then for a person who goes to school or works.

Or could it be the fact that your thinking of the movies, and not real life. Many of the people i've seen that are or have been to prison are not huge and ripped like they are in the movies, which seems to be what your thinking of.

nah man, i just saw a special on san quentin and some of those guys were huge. they didnt have any weights, but they had chin up bars and what looked like a dip station. they were bench pressing the picnic benches with guys sitting on the tables. they could also buy extra food from the commisary and it looked like they had a lot of stuff for sale.

Here's an article where a guy went into a jail an did an interview with inmates about weight lifting in jail.

    http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do...ydra?id=970585

Also, I don't think I will be volunteering to go into jail and find out first hand.
I ain't gone be taking no Vitamin D and no I aint talking about the kind that makes for strong bones.

I feel that everyone has made excellent points about how one can get so jacked in jail, but no one really touched on why.

I imagine that a great desire to accomplish arises while sitting in jail, and lifting is one of the very few things that can be done in jail that will display tangible results. There isn't much skill required, just discipline. Factor in the competitiveness, male ego stroking, and desire to be able to protect one-self, and you've got a sure thing.

Imagine this. You have no job, no responsibility, nothing to do. You have access to weights, food and a bed. What would keep you from lifting like crazy every chance you get? Especially if benching 400 would deter unwelcome advances.

You guys are all saying good stuff, but, with all supplements, vitamins, proteins, carb timing, pre, post, during workout supplementing, how is it that dudes that go to the local gym every day and train got all the supplements in the world GNC carries and stay the same size and don't change. Dudes in jail aint got no Pro Complex or dextrose pwo. No Glutamine to keep muscles from catabolisizing. No Whey protein Isolate. And really seriously doubt these dudes is eating 6-7 protein rich meals a day. And since Carbs are supposedly not anabolic, which i'm sure they get alot of with the usual Peanut butter, whats da' deal with their mass gains?

Let's not get confused with what we see on television. Not all prison guys are that big. And a lot of them were big before they even got thrown in prison. And in those baggy clothes you can't see what half of their bodies look like anyway.

Dudes in jail aint got no Pro Complex or dextrose pwo. No Glutamine to keep muscles from catabolisizing. No Whey protein Isolate. And since Carbs are supposedly not anabolic, which i'm sure they get alot of with the usual Peanut butter, whats da' deal with their mass gains?
Because supplements are overrated? And so is protein (important but a well balanced diet with protein at every meal will get you enough). I think working out hard and eating are going to get you more than spending all your money on supps. Also a lot of guys buy everything they can at GNC and dont put in the intense workouts needed. Your question was answered a long time ago when it was mentioned: Workout, Rest, Eat. If you workout hard and eat, you gain.

ETA: Maybe people who tend to do hard time also tend to have better genetics than the average wimpy, law abiding citizen.

Diet is essential when wanting to get extremely lean, not necessarily for getting huge.
    Supplement free,
    healthy eater.

My dad said to me that they have so much time to rest that they make it up by working out more then average. Plus alot of them do cardio by playing basketball and stuff. you can get pretty much anything on the inside as you can on the outside. any illegal medication/drug is available, protein powders are available above the board, they feed you a well balanced diet and you can get extra portions if you want.

when all you do is eat, take steroids, workout, and rest you'll get huge, look at most of the pros for example.

i work in a prison and they get big because they have nothing else to do all day except sit around and exercise/work out. our facility doesnt allow weights so the inmates do lots of pull ups on the shower bars and use other things to help them exercise.

free weights aren't allowed in prison. what country are you referring to?

All the supplements in the world are not going to get you some decent mass gains unless you have a well balanced diet, get plenty of rest, and train with intensity.
