    ZMA and Multivitamins question...

I'd like to try ZMA, primarily for the sleep benefits, but most recommended doseages are Vitamin B6: 11mg, Magnesium: 450mg, Zinc: 30mg.

The multi I'm currently taking (copy of GNC's Mega Men) has Vitamin B6: 30mg, Magnesium: 5mg, Zinc: 25mg per day - 2 tablets, one in the morning and one at night.

Is the key "sleeping" ingredient the magnesium? It seems that its the only thing lacking in my multi...tho with the multi, everything is spread out over a full day, not in one doseage before bedtime.

I'm currently using Lunesta and Diphenhydramine alternating as sleep aids now, with minimal success...just wake up after 8 hours feeling more tired than before I went to bed.

I've read lots of positives about ZMA so I'd love to give that a whirl...also what about GABA?

    thanks for any input...

ZMA is great. Deffently purchase some. You might be able to get it even cheaper, if you buy the ingrediants seperatly. Remember its just zinc, magnesium, vitamin B6. I spend £3 for 2 months supply. If I bought ZMA as one product, it would cost £10+ a month. A big difference!

I also use gaba, it knocks me out within 30mins. When I wake up in the morning, im refreshed.

I'm not sure if its testosterone claims are accurate, didn't really feel diff but I'm not sure I would if it actually did work.

However, the sleeping def is much better while on ZMA. Dreams are vivid, my sleeps are deeper and when I wake up I feel better and more awake.

Agreed with everyone else. I have been taking ZMA for a few years now and I love it! It is always a staple for me in my supplement stack.
I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. -Michael Jordan

How much GABA do you use?

From what I have read anything from 2g to 10g is safe and the higher the dose the more effective. I am currently taking 3 750 mg tabs every evening (2.25g). I am 38 and I definitely feel the effects of a restful sleep and the overnight GH boost first thing in the morning. Another strange side effect seems to be a decrease in abdominal fat, an almost instantaneous one! My weight fluctuates between 150 and 155, most of my fat residing in my middle; upon waking from my first night taking GABA I realized a very noticeable difference in my tummy size. Having not expected this as a consequence of taking it I see no reason to believe this is a placebo effect.

Has anyone else had this experience?

    OT a sec...

Hawk, where abouts in CT are you? I am moving back there from Florida at the end of the summer and will be looking for a good inexpensive gym when I get there. Im not a big guy so I'm not looking for a Powerhouse, or a Gold's just a small gym where I can work out where I'm not intimidated yet still inspired.

I'm moving to the New Haven/West Haven/Hamden area. Any help would be great.

    Thanks

When you use gaba, use it with caution. Start of on a low dosege for the first week, like 2g. Then each week increase it by 2g, until you reach 8-10g. Gaba should be taken for 6 weeks on, 2 weeks off.

Dont make the same mistake I did. I went straight to maxium dosage. I couldnt breath properly for an hour. It really scared the ****, out of me. Always start on a low doseage.

As for ZMA. Its meant to boost testosterone levels by 33%. Along with other anabolic hormones, such as growth hormone, IGF-1, etc. Zinc is a vitamin, that boosts testosterone levels. When people say, you dont need it, when your young. Yes you do. It is a vitamin, so why would you want to be defficent, in it?

Excellent advice. I read a lot about GABA before taking it and even now am being extremely cautious and taking it very slow. I am beginning to cycle almost every supp with the exception of my multis and protien. From what I have read and experienced firsthand most body chemistry altering supps are adapted to by the body so clearing out and taking a week or two off them not only prevents adverse health effects but also kicks in the initial effects all over again.

I may be on the higher scale of that dose at the end of my cycle because of my age and the lower test and HGH levels that come with it.

I'm almost at the end of my first week, starting tuesday I'll kick it up another 2 pills and see how it goes from there.

    Thanks again!

I like ZMA and I've always been praising it since I started using it. I wouldn't worry too much about what's in your multi vitamins because you have to consider the fact that some will be wasted, some will be used when you work out and depleted throughout the day and you're different from the regular joe who just wants to stay healthy.

I don't think it's too much of a problem, heck I take the same multi. But now just once a day because people thought my stack might be a little overboard. Every now and then I'll take one in the morning and at night, just as I see fit.

It's great for sleeping too. My circadian rythem's perfect. Last night my gf left at midnight (after cleaning my protein cup, what a honey!) and I woke up at 8am exactly. I used to over sleep or toss and turn, but now if I let myself I wake up exactly at 8am on the weekends. It's trippy as hell. If I stay out late, I'll STILL sleep for 8 hours lol. And I forgot to take my ZMA as well. Even taking melatonin didn't give me such consistent results. It's probably cheaper than your script of lunesta so give it a try. Haven't read jack **** about GABA though. I was never interested in that supplement because my stack's doing me all right for now.

browndustin your right. Zinc is best asorbed, on an empty stomach, with NO calcium. Your multi contins calcium. Most likley your breakfast does as well. They all contribute to zinc diffeciency. The amount of neg reps, I have recieved, from saying ZMA is a must for everyone. Its a mineral.

As said before, zinc should be taken on an empty stomach, with no calcium. To enhance asorbation, take with some vitamin c.

Interesting. I've never heard of Gaba till now but it seems like an effective product to use. I think I'll give it a try. Any advice on it before I take it?

Who the hell would neg rep you for something like that?? Man, there's a lot of boners on this forum. At least you can pick out their trash and ignore it. Things are meant to be taken with a grain of salt but I mean, c'mon. That's lame. Ah well, just little squares by your name lol

But yeah, it's no secret that zinc and magnesium are essential to those who lift or just anyone in general. You won't die if you don't take ZMA, but the ratios and idea of taking it before bed are just spot-on. I've messed around with taking it, stopping for a long time and seeing what happens and I honestly don't think it's junk.

To each their own though... I don't see any companies like muscle tech making a god damn monopoly off of the stuff, so if no one else takes it then that's their loss. I've never had such good results from a supplement except for things like whey and better forms of creatine.

I use Higher power. Good value. The only down side is, the opening is too small.

The 3 most inportant minerals are.

    Calcium
    Zinc
    Iron

So really, you have to use zinc.

Yea I read that a few minutes ago when I started reading about gaba here.

Whenever I hear about a new supplement (well new to me) I always spend a while doing research and asking questions about it to make sure I get a good grasp of understanding on it. I hate the idea of taking supplements blind. It just scares me way too much plus you could easily be wasting money on an uneffective product.

GABA is basically a neurotransmitter that (is supposed to) "quiet the mind" I'm no biologist so I couldn't tell you how but it also at higher doses increases HGH production by "turning off" the chemical that inhibits it.

    http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/gaba.html

Like you I don't just jump in and try anything that will possibly have long term effects on my brain function/health etc.

As far as DHEA is concerned I have heard as much negative as positive about it. I tried it for a month on 2 weeks off then another month on with mixed results. The frighteningly quick showing of effect from GABA though has me hooked, and I havent heard as much negative feedback about it.

Before I had heard of GABA, a friend told, me how he was using it, & it brang him out in acne, on his back. I dont know how, it was probaly a coincedence.

I agree with previous posts, always do your research. I even research different vitamins. I have wasted countless amount of money on supplements, promasing mass gains. And I fell idol to it, & dished out money. Thinking about it now, it makes me mad, thinking how stupid I was. I think im going to have some gaba now, to calm me down. lol

    resurrection ...

since I am taking a multi (Opti Men, 3/day) and drinking a milk+casein+flax shake before bed, I assume all that calcium would essentially negate the Zinc absorption.

On top of that, the multi has zinc and Magnesium ... so I assume I don't really need ZMA.

    Any thoughts?

take the zma 30 minutes before your bedtime shake & multi. I like the extra benefits from zma.

I've never tried gaba, but it seems to help my boss chill out.

as for zma, I can only take 2 caps as 3 makes it difficult to wake up the next morning.
