    Hot tub use after workout?

I was just wondering if it would be wise/safe to use the hot tub after working out with weights.

I typically hit the steam room after the weights but from time to time I will use the hot tub.

I have had no adverse effects from it. I imagine as long as it is not so hot that you pass out, you're OK.
There is a time in every man's education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better, for worse, as his portion; that though the wide universe is full of good, no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through his toil bestowed on that plot of ground which is given to him to till.

My immediate reaction is NO WAY! But that’s from a personal point of view, the last place I would want to be after a weight session is a hot tub, might as well just shoot myself. I prefer to hit the shower, keeping it lukewarm, if the water is too cold all the blood vessels constrict and a few minutes after coming out I’d be soaked in sweat again.

I do like the hot tub after swimming cardio or the day after an intense workout though.

Never really gave it a thought, always in a rush to get out of the gym, however I may give it a go and report back. I can't imagine a bad side effect from it though.

Personally, and this is just IMO, I would wait at least 30 minutes past my post-workout reloading (protein or BCAA's / carbs).

The reason I'm thinking this is that the temperature of the hot tub water will have the effect of moving blood supplies to the capillaries under the skin for thermal regulation. Since we only have so much blood to go around, this will naturally pull blood from deep muscle tissue that is waiting for nutrients to be delivered post-workout.

    Just a thought.

Lilac, after I lift I go across the street to the hot therapy pool which is 92 degrees. Takes about 20 mins from the WO until I get in the water. I find it soothing to do stretches & to swim, & the next day the DOMS are noticably less than when I don't use the pool. Never have had any negative effects.

Believe it or not, working out and jumping in a hot tub can cause a coronary episode, or at least stress on the heart, because blood does indeed rush to the surface to try to expel heat--and away from the heart and muscles.

This was revealed to me for the first time after coach Mike Ditka had a heart attack in the news analysis that followed. Granted, not the model of healthy living, nevertheless, people should be aware.

And never fall asleep in the hot tub.

    Thanks for the warning, Tyrbolift.

I have to take time out to cool down and get some nutrients in me right after a workout, anyway. Can't eat unless cooled down, and HAVE to eat for whatever weird glitch in my metabolism. So jumping in a hot tub straight after a workout isn't an option for me. I bring my food to the gym with me, so will cool down, eat, regroup and get centered (little yoga thang), then try the hot tub.

Don't think I'll have a problem with falling asleep. I'm very pressure sensitive. The motion of the water in the hot tub wakes me up and energizes me.

    re weights tohot tub

Far out two years I worked out at a place with weights, cardio, hot tub & pool. Almost every day I went from exercising to the whirlpool. It did wonders for me. Very little DOMS if any. I also am tye 2 diabetic + some high blood pressure. The high reps and cardio kept my blood sugar under control.

The other two on here are correct in my opinion with regards to blood rushing from muscles to capilary beds. If you are training to gain size you want to keep that blood in muscles as long as possible and keep it gorged with with...this will promote tissues getting oxygen and feed muscles. Now once your pump is gone I wouldnt worry about it. Having blood rush out of muscles to other areas most likely will not cause you any problems. My biggest worry for you going in the hot tub immediately after would be how dehydrated are you already from the work out #1, as the hot tub is only gonna increase body temp even more...this could cause dizzyness / light headedness. Again the key word being "May". If you are healthy, no high B press issues and well hydrated..Id say wait till the pump is gone and you have cooled down a little...grab some water or your protein drink and enjoy the hot tub!
