I think black beans are the best, nutitionally speaking, although many of them are quite similar.

i have black, small red, and pinto...they aren't as similar as you say, for instance for a 1/4 cup..blacks have 160 cal and 11g protein... reds however, have only 60 cal and 8g protein... quite a difference if you are trying to get your protein in for the same calorie amount of black beans you get 21.3g of protein vs. 11g. I would suggest going with some small reds. I get the goya small red beans... excellent for red beans and brown rice... spice it up cajun style, or however u want it. note make sure to get red beans and NOT kidney beans.

I like red beans because they are 75% fiber. 21g carbs per serving, 16g of which is fiber.

you may want to double check your labels... i use both black and small red from Goya and my labels say both have 90 cals and 7g protien per 1/2 cup.I enjoy both varieties in different dishes. Can not really go wrong either way.

I eat black beans as well as red kidney beans with my brown rice. I alternate every week. Sometimes I have pinto beans separately with meals. Variety is good.

are you using canned or dry. mine were dry and just checked again b/c u said that and it is accurate from the labels. I think it is due to the swelling once cooked?
