Pros:
- They pay for your college education. And the monthly "Drill Pay" check comes in handy for a little spending money (in the neighborhood of $200)..
- You hang out one weekend a month with your buddies.
Cons:
- You WILL be deployed. And depending on how you feel about it, it could also be a Pro... for instance, you will make a lot of $$$$ on deployents - but you'll have to put school on hold.

And did I say it wasn't, I was merely making a point.

1,400,000 active duty members, less than 1,000 "get killed" in combat each year. It's really sad how little you apparently understand your job and future prospects if you think "getting killed" is reasonably likely.

And I agree with many of the comments made above: Don't join just for the money. Join because you want to be part of the military - including a realistic chance that you will be deployed to a combat zone.

The biggest con for me would be being sent off to fight in a war that I didn't believe in.

Please keep you political commentary in the Religion/ Politics section. A decision on military service has very little to do with who's sitting in the Oval Office and/or which party has the majority in Congress.

Here's a novel idea. Work, take evening classes at a community college and pay as you go.
