How can some athletes workout 6 hours a day?

I'm not talking about weight training in this thead.

I'm talking about just overall workouts.

I mean, I hear stuff like you shouldn't workout more than ____ hours a day. But howcome some athletes workout 4-6 hours a day?

Is it ok as long as you get enough rest and nutrition (calories, fat, carbs, protein, water, etc..)?

which athletes workout 6 hours a day? i cant think of any off hand. If they do then the reason for this is that its their job. They dont do anything else except train for their event so they can use more energy on it.

I'm refering to professional and some amature athletes.

Like Kobe Bryant worksout 6 hours a day in the off season.

Floyd Mayweather (boxer) lives in the Gym.

My quesiton is, is it ok?

Because people tell me you shouldn't workout that much, but other athletes do it.

Because that isn't as high an intensity as weight training.

bc these forums are obsessed with overtraining to the point of ridiculousness

the body is made to adapt...theyve put years into those activities, and adapted to be able to do that, and not the entire thing is max weight, etc

    its different

same idea as how olympic lifters can squat 4-6 times per week

    yep.... what he said....

after years of training, what there doing isn't really "excersise" it's just an everyday thing that there body is use to... runners can run miles everday because that's what they do. but some people get sore after running a few miles and can't run again for few days...
    Post clever signature here.....

anybody with 50+ reps feel free to give me one....

when kobe works out for hours, he isn't lifting for hours. he might lift, then do basketball drills, like shooting and whatnot.

Some of you didn't read my post, I said I wasn't talking about weight training.

So, basically you are saying as long as I work my way up, it should be ok?

As long as you stay in tune with your body, your heart, aches and pains, and dont do anything stupid or far-reaching.

Exactly, and they forget there are a lot of people out there doing hard physical work all day, all week... and training.

    proper training

like the bulgarians; they have everything down to a minute science. e.g., elevation of feet and body temperature when resting between workouts.
