    1. The above posters don't know what they're talking about
    2. No, it would be very difficult to become overtrained by doing a few sets of pushups and situps every day (I do it and have no problems).

Doing pushups with no weight added is pretty meaning less, you're body won't grow unless its forced to.

They might make you stronger up to a small point but they will mainly just give you more endurance.

IT will help with recovery, getting the blood flowing to the muscles that need repair. Which means nutrients flowning, a set or 2 is fine and wont do any harm

It's fine. I think they're great for overall conditioning along with bodyweight chins & dips and maybe one-legged squats. You're pressing around 2/3rds of your body weight which for most people should be around 55% or less of their bench max so it's not going to interfere with anything.

I've never understood why some people will go on about it interfering with chest work. Do they get around in a wheelchair between squat sessions to preserve their precious legs too?

"Overtraining" is when your body doesn't have enough time to repair itself between muscle-building workouts. That doesn't apply to endurance exercises, which is what you're talking about with pushups and situps.

Lol, nice. Yeah to a previous post, of course you get something out of it. It's pretty presumptious to say that there is no point in doing pushups, because they do increase strength and endurance, and there is no harm in doing them in moderation.

Besides, the original question was: will they be overtrained? No, they won't be, do them if they help you. That's all he wanted to know.

I personally think pushups have helped my chest got stronger, I started doing them before bed about 5 weeks ago, I could only do sets of about 25-30. now I'm doing 500 (5 sets of 100). and my lifts have def. gone up. everyones body works differently try it out and see if it helps

There's no point in using them to target strength unless you're just starting out. If you want to improve your maximum strength, lift heavy weights. You can still do pushups, just find a way to add some weight (like using a backpack with weights). With bw alone, they are a good exercise for conditioning however.

It feels great to hit the concrete and pump out 100 quickfire pushups. And no it won't interfere with your chest work any more than running up a flight of stairs will interfere with your leg training. Not unless you're incredibly weak anyway.

Rather than ask yourself "would it be overtraining", ask yourself, "would it be necessary"? What will you gain from it? Will it advance you closer to your goals? If so, then do it. If not, find something that will.....

Is there a cell-tech pushup formula? Cell-Tech Bodyweight Mass Builder eh?

I like pushups. Use them to gauge strength/endurance. I don't do them every day though
