Sorry if I sound dumb, but I know what the differences are between bodybuilding and powerlifting, but what about storngman competitions? Storngmen train to be strong, so aren't they like powerlifters? How does a strongman differ from a powerlifter or bodybuilder? Sorry, I know very little about strongmen. And which group is the strongest overall, powerlifters, strongmen or bodybuilders? Any help would be nice.

you really do
edit: sorry, i'm in a bad mood..
anyway, my argument would be that pl'ers are probably best at static stuff like deads, squats, etc. but actually doing functional movements like moving with weights and odd objects, the strongmen are stronger
basically whatever the focus is for each group, they will be better at whatever focus that is (generally)
pl'ers train the squat, bench, dead.. strongmen train events; stones, fingers, ohp movements, etc. (plus squat/dead, sometimes bench)Last edited by mochi; 12-01-2007 at 09:45 PM.

strongmen have to have endurance and also speed for some events and also explosive strength. Powerlifters dont have to have any of that.
strongmen are definitely more well rounded. Look at Marius or Jesse Marunde (RIP)..very explosive. There was the one event where they had to throw the kegs over the high wall or whatever....thats all explosive strength...not 'absolute' strength like a powerlifter has. Jesse cleared the wall easily with all the kegs where some guys barely bumped over the wall with one keg. the difference is that Jesse was explosive whereas the other guys werent.
bodybuilding is a mixed bag...some r strong, some are very weak for their size. Lou Ferrigno always made a pretty good showing for himself when he competed in strength events. I imagine the guys were more well rounded back then....its hard to see many of todays bbers doing as well. Doing partials on a smith machine doesnt really crossover to any other event, lol
a big difference between strongmen and powerlifters is bicep strength....Plers dont really meed much but strongmen need a lot of it."Humility comes before honor"
