This request was on another forum I frequent. I thought I'd post the question here to you guys;
"I've called everywhere and googled everything I can think of. You guys may be my last hope.
I'm a teacher and will be taking a group of students on a ski trip in a little over a month. I have a student who wears a size 18 1/2 street shoe. I really want him to participate, but I can't find boots anywhere. All I can find is one shop on the east coast who will custom make them for around $1000. This would be for a student who has never skied before, and likely may never again. I know whatever I find will be expensive, and I hope to ebay when we get back to get as much out of them as I can. I just really don't want to have one student be stuck in the lodge all day while everyone else is out having fun.
Does anyone have any idea to help a poor guy out?"

Geez, I thought I had a hard time with 15 wides. Strolz seems to makes boots this size, but I have no idea about the cost.

Just thought of something else - have you called ahead to the ski shops at the mountain and in the general vicinity of the mountain to see if they have rentals this large? Before i had my own boots, I was sometimes able to get rental boots, but this kid may just be too far from the standard deviation for that...It would be worth a few phone calls, though, if it saves you hundreds of dollars!

I'm not any help either. I googled and googled and found Strolz and Dale. I also wondered about snow boarding. We don't do a lot of that in South Carolina , so I wasn't sure if special shoes were needed for that also -- but apparently they are.
I hope things work out for him!"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7

What a predicament. I'd recommend snowboarding because he wouldn't need ski boots, but if the group is skiing he would be the odd man out because boarding is so much different; he'd be in a different class with newbie boarders rather than with newbie skiers. Maybe a few of his classmates would be interesting in trying the boarding with him & that would work; FWIW, boarding is considered to be much cooler than skiing among high schoolers, at least in my part of the Rockies. You may want to pick up a copy of SnowBoarding magazine to let the group have a look at it; might ignite some interest.

There was a kid in this building who had feet that big and his mother couldn't get him shoes under $1000.00. Sometimes sports teams donate to those kids because of the high cost for average people and sports players have large feet. Ask her to try the professional sports teams like the basketball players. There may be a player who has some appropriate shoes to donate.
