    Pre-Contest Running

I would like to get the thoughts of the competitors here. How many of you run as the primary source of cardio during a prep? I know it's probably a low number but I'm hoping I'll get one or two.

If you would, please state any thoughts that you may have regarding running.

    Thanks!

I do HIIT with power-walking on the treadmill as my only cardio method...no running...get the same effect with less wear and tear on the joints because it's not high-impact.

    That's just me tho.

    Jordan, That's some cardio!

I'm doing this on a 10 day split:
Days: 1 - 6 and day 8: 45 minutes AM cardio (run 5 days, pick something else for the other two)
    Day 7: Sprints
Days 9 and 10: no cardio at all (Power days in the weight room)
ALL DAYS except 9and 10 I do 20 minutes post workout, aleit at a bit less intensity.
Therefore, 8 of 10 days are double gym sessions now.

Just started this new phase this week. I was curious about the running because it's my favorite cardio. I just get a really nice CV pump from it. I know it can cause over use inguries but I've run distance for so many years off and on that I think my body is used to it by now. But most BB'ers I know are pretty much against running.

By running do you mean like HIIT/ Sprint style or long distance low intensity?
I really prefer HIIT, I mean I can actually see differences in my physique the next morning following a HIIT session.

Mostly tempo runs with one sprint session and one LI per week. My carbs are way too low right now to do too much anerobic work. I hear you though: I too like the HI work better. The duration isn't as long and it's just a great workout!!! I'm doing sprints tomorrow. Since it snowed all day today, and they are calling for 20mph winds, it should be a blast!

RE: "tempo" runs: This is a session conducted at fast pace. It's the kind of pace that you're not quite sure you can handle but you force yourself. For me, right now it is a 8.5MM pace over 40 minutes (I know. Not all that speedy but I'm still packing some extra weight).

I'm sure he's doing some running in there. I mean, I can't get remotely close to anerobic walking at any incline. Unless he just means "higher" than normal intensity.
