Gotta be for steel cut like Alex said. They are almost twice as calorically dense as rolled oats per same volume.

Raw oats, 600 calories (they are pretty dense). Think of a cup of any whole grain, it's pretty heavy compared to oatmeal.

Dry rolled oats (with the outside layer milled off), about 300 per cup. If you look at the actual weight, which is listed after the 1 cup volume, you can see that a cup of oatmeal weighs about half as much as a cup of raw grain, so it makes sense.

lots of nutrion info there, good way to keep track of how many cal. your getting too.

WTF is the difference between rolled & steel cut oats? I use raw quaker oats, I'm assuming that's rolled since they're 300cal/cup

Steel cut is whole oats, chopped up.

Rolled oats have the outer layer (and a lot of fiber) milled off so they do not offend the average person by being too crunchy, then steamed and flattened to be more fluffy.

Another reason for separating the outer layer from the inside of the grain is b/c they can be sold separately for more $$ as rolled oats and oat bran...

more than you ever wanted to know about oats:

Rolled for me (dry) is 150 per 1/3 cup, so 450 per cup. The oats I have are "Robin Hood" (It's the company that makes all purpose flour ect.)
