Dave Palumbo's diet is a good one.
Here is a link to his diet

I have done keto,
Its a very effective fat loss method and has proven safe also.
Threre are some things that you have to realize when doing keto though.
your enrgy levels can bottom out and effect your workouts, some people learn to work though that and eventually their bodies adjust and they have plenty of energy, many paople like to have periodic carb up days so they can replenish their glycogen reserves. Some like to consume simple sugars before the workout to keep their energy up.
Some people complain that their muscles stat to look a little flat due to the glycogen depletion.

Maybe if you have to miss a couple of meals, who knows. Now that you mention it, that is kind of weird.

Overall I liked the diet but that comment just sort of popped out at me.
I'd love to ask him what is the emergency he speaks of because it was just an unusual thing to see in print.

I am on Keto right now...going on 4 weeks. I lost almost 10 pounds but word is that the first month is water weight. My energy is crap right now. By the afternoon I want to take a 2 hour nap. I have to push myself to start in the gym but once Im going its ok. I havent noticed a change in strength and actually put 5 pounds on my bench. I have been taking vpx for energy support and it helps but they dont even work as good as they did when I was taking in carbs.

I've been on keto almost exclusively since February 2007. I've had a lapse of a couple of days or so in that time.
While I haven't lost a lot of weight, only about 10-12 lbs, my triglycerides went down over 100 points. My HDL went up, though so did my cholesterol and LDL, somewhat but not a lot. However, those and the lack of weight loss are most likely due to my T3 deficiency.
Being gluten sensitive/intolerant and carb addicted (once I start I can't stop) I can never go back to eating anything but keto and feel halfway decent.

I'm with you Minotaur. I went hog wild and gained 20lbs in about 5 weeks when I stopped being strict. I am like a junkie when I eat carbs.
It all started with just eating a bowl of oatmeal twice a day, and went way downhill fast

I was going to do Keto until i got the mentoring services of a 70 year old bodybuilder , who put me on his weight loss / cut programme. What you mention about keto and the bottoming out is exactly this guys criticism. Didn't get that problem on his plan but the diet ?xperts "all agree that Keto is either 1 or 2 weeks due to the problems - no more!

Wow, I have been on it 6 weeks, and have never felt better. I am getting by on less sleep, not crashing mid afternoon, and have been steadily increasing my strength.
I think the body is not a textbook, so everyone reacts differently.

I was doing Keto for a couple of months. My energy went really downhill, so I upped my carbs some, but my diet is still around 50% fats. It really is a healthy way to eat. It is also very tweakable!

Thanks for all the input all.
I think between ultimate orange and my animal pump it will help me get through the low part and get my workout in. Also working out with my wrestling team daily its hard to slack off when you have 50 kids pushing you to the max.
Like I said I have done high protein and very low carbs. But I never really tracked how much fat I was taking in so I will really get strict this time and log everything. I really want to drop this extra weight so my energy is up and than I will be able to get my guns back to "damn them some nice guns" status. Besides I can't remember the last time my 6 pack wasn't burried under this keg.

Been on Keto (TKD) since Jan 1st . . . love it! Down almost 10 pounds and 2 inches on my waist. Can't say on bodyfat . . . struggling to get an accurate/consistent measurement so it's more a game of looking at progress pics and measurements. I know I've dropped a good amount of bf% just by appearance so far.

I did high protein and low carbs before too, but did low fat at the same time. Don't fall into that trap. If you cut carbs you have to eat more fat, just make sure it's healthy fats, nuts, olive oil, fish oil, peanut butter, etc.

I agree with Penney. I love it for fat loss, but you do have to play around with it for a while to find what works for you. For me, the big pain is when you get in a situation and you have to find something to eat fast.

Starkist tuna creations, hickory smoked, is zero carbs. It is in a zip off pouch
I keep a few of those, plastic forks, a jar of peanut butter, some almonds, and a container of protein powder, and a mixer bottle in my car. That way I have no excuse to eat carbs.

I cycled my carbs (CKD basically) for 4.5 months, and still do a modest carb cycle with minimal carbs on most days, re-feed on Saturdays.

How has this worked for you? My goal is to drop about 30 lbs still.
What is your definition of modest carbs? How many a day?

Started the Anabolic Diet about two weeks ago.....today is first carb refeed!
Similar to a keto-style diet but not keto in its purest form. Givenr has been on it for some time now with pretty good success.
I did it several months ago but screwed it up on the refeeds.
I have the e-book if you're interested. PM me your e-mail address.
Put into simple terms:
60F/35P/10C for first 12 days.
2 day refeed........60C/30F/10P then you're on a 5 day (fat/protein) / 2 day refeed (carbs) from that point on.
Pretty easy to follow but the first 12 days can be a killer!!
Today is nice!!

This is what I am doing right now:
Only difference on heavy training days (Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday) will be the addition of 75 grams of dextrose/maltodextrin to protein shake. Only shake I consume over the course of the day. On days where I am just doing GPP, active recovery, or conditioning, protein shake is still consumed, but with no additional carbs.
All foods listed: Calories, fat, carbs, protein.
Light Day:
Breakfast:
Omelette: 4 egg whites, 2 eggs, trace of onions, green peppers, two oz. cheese.
1/2 cup steel cut oats.
Total Calories:
499 21 31 45
Post workout shake:
192 0 13 42
Chicken breast, 8oz.
299 6 0 57
Beef Tenderloin:
481 23 0 64
Tuna Salad (with egg)
314 14 19 28
Chicken breast, 8oz.
299 6 0 57
Beef Tenderloin:
481 23 0 64
Also, EFA Supplements will add to total calories:
108 12 0 0
Daily totals:
2558 99 62 344
% total intake:
Protein: 56
Carbs: 36
Fat: 8
On training days, the addition of 75grams CHO to PW shake changes totals to following:
2834 99 124 344
% total intake:
Protein: 50
Carbs: 32
Fat: 17
This will remain constant Sunday through Friday. Saturday, I eat whatever the hell I want, protein stays up through the addition of protein shakes. Protein is a 50/50 blend of whey and casein.
Right now I generally have some sort of other carb snack during the afternoon, but it varies, and I am too lazy to list it every day. My goal is to maintain bodyfat and not get over 230. When I hit that point, I will tighten things up again. Which would actually entail more fat and less protein.
When actually utilizing the CKD, I tried to keep my daily (non-refeed days) carbs as close to zero as possible.

The whole "crashing" thing is bogus except for long periods of cardio when very depleted. I can bike like a madman for 3 hours, then I have to slow down for the conversion. Once you open up those pathways for fuel, you become more efficient at the conversion. When I started, I could only go for about 90 mins.

What *emergency* does he speak of ?
That part just made me laugh.

I think it's just another way of saying "carb up". I only do 3 carb laden meals a week. I've stayed in ketosis for as long as 3 months.

We're designed to run on fats for fuel, the grain industry seems to think otherwise, but millions of years of living this way seems to have perpetuated the species. We didn't have an obesity issue until the last 30ish years, IT'S NOT A COINCEDENCE!!
