this protein.....that protein???????? HUH????

This is so confusing to me, everyone tells me something different. Can someone tell me what a good protein is that a beginner (I) can start on? One that won't brake my pocket and not taste like i just ground up some sidewalk chalk and choked it down? I need help in the department!

Thanks

Optimum nutrition is good, depends on the flavor. Labrada makes good products too. Depends on what kind of protein your looking for. Is it for meal replacement, pre/post workout? When will you be drinking it? And what flavors do you like? Fruity, chocolate, banana, etc.

When should i drink it? POST WORKOUT i have heard a lot, so probably that. Flavors? Vanilla maybe...I really don't know much. My hubby knows a bunch but i wanted to hear it from the women on this site to get a different point of view...but from what you all are saying it sounds like my hubby does know what's up.

Thanks

Well whenever you want to! I use shakes as meal replacements or snacks throughout the day. So if you want to use it that way, you'd probably want a blend of proteins. If it's for post workout, probably whey protein, since it's fast digesting. Most people create an insulin spike post workout by consuming protein and a fast digesting carb. I don't do this, i try to keep my insulin levels stable throughout the day, so i no longer do a post workout shake. If you're just going to have a shake with your workouts, go with Whey. If you want it as a snack or something, go with a blend (whey, casein, egg maybe etc). A blend with casein is also a good idea if you want a shake before bed. And as for vanilla, watch out, a lot of vanilla proteins are NASTY. Labrada makes a good vanilla though

REALLY? What flavor would you recommend? If I were to go with Optimum Nutrition...also yeah i think i would like to eventually use my shake as a meal replacement too.

Thank you so much for your help, it's nice to get some info from a woman, and obviously you know what you are doing...GREAT ABS!!!! How do i get some abs like that? I am currently doing the Mark Rippetoe "Starting Strength" workout and have been doing it for a month with no previous workout experience and am already seeing results so i cannot complain...i am just curious as to what other women out there are doing to get results.

Thanks girl!

Out of Optimum's Whey, these flavors are good: Double chocolate (kinda plain though, but safe), banana cream, and delicious strawberry (but it seems this one is hit or miss from reviews I've read. That of course is a slow digesting protein. The ON 100% Whey Vanilla Ice Cream is gross, i have a whole tub sitting in my cabinet.

Optimum's 100% Casein (slow digesting, ideal for a snack or pre-bed) is good in the creamy vanilla flavor. You can also buy unsweetened cocoa powder and add a bit of that to make it chocolate instead without buying a whole new protein. The chocolate casein is terrible, and from what i've heard the banana is gross too.

For RTD's Labrada's lean body is good in all flavors, and certain muscle milk flavors are good too, but too high in sugar for me. If you wanna try an RTD try Labrada's Lean Body, you won't be dissappointed with any flavor. I tried Muscle Milk Light it was terrible in my opinion.

A good protein blend is ISS's Micellular Matrix. I have the chocolate flavor it's yummy. Unfortunately my tummy isn't a big fan, so i can only have it every now and then until it's gone.

I'm currently ordering Xtreme Formulation Ultra Peptide 2.0 becuase I've heard good things, so that may be a good one to go with.

And thank you for the compliments! I don't train my abs a lot, but when i do, i'll do weighted exercises, like a weighted cable crunch, a cable axe chop, or a hanging leg raise with a 10lb weight in between my feet. When I lowered my BF they began to show, and keeping the water off is important to. That's great that you're seeing results, you will learn over time what your body responds best to. Keep up the good work!

Muscle Milk is only good in certain flavors..... my favorite is Mint chocolate, MR, Light and regular. Stay away from rootbeer float and banana tastes like @ss.... Most protein powders really do not taste well at all. If its a meal replacement just get some chocolate flavored and mix it with a banana and some water in a blender, helps take the bit out of it. I find pwo shakes need to be someone light in fat and carbs...i'm using a cheap powder from ******** for after workout. Milk replacement/snack i use muscle milk light mixed with water....love mint choc.... tried the straw milkshake and orange cream and about gagged on the flavor. Mixes much better with a banana. Try to buy some of those sample packages from your local health store....sample away until you find one that you can handle taste wise.

Sore doesn't mean bad. If you feel overall fatigue and you are exhausted, you need to rest. But just becuase you're sore doesn't mean you need a day off.

How is your workout split? For instance i do legs tuesday, and by the next day, my legs are so sore and stiff but it doesn't matter because i train back the next day. You shouldn't hit a body part 2 days in a row, your workout should have some type of a split.

Glad you're happy with the protein, it makes for a nice little treat during the day

Any vanilla protein is great with some chocolate or strawberry hersheys syrup!!! Hahaha....I used to do that until I got used to the flavor of "whey" its just nasty. You seem a bit light at 5'5....so I agree to use protein as a supplement to your diet. You must have a relatively high metabolism? So it may be hard to pack on alot of weight....but get at least 125gs of protein a day.

yeah i got the Optimum Double chocolate and like it a lot! so it's all good. As for my metabolism, i have always weighed under 106lbs, i do have a high metabolism, but also eat often during the day and I eat relatively healthy, so i am sure it helps. I have gained weight in the last month since i started working out, and now i have my protein shake so i will do as you all say and use it throughout the day! Thanks girl!
