yes the bench press record is a little over 1000, but it is a shirted max. The guy wore a special bench shirt. I think the raw record is around 600 (don't quote me on that).

1015 has never been done officially.
Gene attempted it and failed.
Jimmy Pellechia claims to have done it with 3 spotters (whatever that means) but he has no official record.
Scott Mendelson holds it at 1008 although at the same meet he attempted 2 higher weights and failed on both.

Good point! I saw a video of some guy doing a huge amount of weight on the bench press, and his arms were so short and his chest was so large that he only needed to move it about two inches for it to count as a good lift.Originally Posted by Chino.

i thought bench would be at the bottom of the big 3
order:
1. deadlift
2. squat
3. bench
to be honest, i wouldnt like to be that strong with the physiques those guys have.

You don't have to be 528 lbs or w/e to have a 'base' wide enough. There are some guys that squat close to what he does weighing a lot less. The bench press record holder - Scot Mendelson was weighing like 320s I think when he benched the 1008 lb record. Scot Mendelson also holds the raw bench press record of like 713 lbs.
