Calling all those who have acheived amazing bodies... birth control?
I don't want to blame something that isn't at fault but I can't help but wonder...
Is my birth control keeping me from lowering my body fat to the levels that I really want? I suppose what I'm looking for is some assurance from someone who has dieted down / cut successfully and possibly competed, despite being on birth control pills.

Hey there,
My wife has never competed, but she does know what birth control pills can do to you...yes, some depending on the type and the way they react with your body can cause weight gain, or other unwanted symptoms.
My brother's wife's sister also had this exact thing happen to her...as soon as she went on birth control, it made her gain weight...and she's had a hard time losing it. Chalk it up to hormones being out of whack and messing with your metabolism.
If you want to talk to my wife, send her a private message...her screen name is FoxyT .
Hope this helps some!
-Todd

Perhaps you could also ask your doc about going with Mirena, which is an IUD. The hormone effect you get from it is very small, plus you don't have to worry about popping your pills every day.
I am hypothyroid, which sometimes makes it even more difficult to lose weight. Being on BC pills didn't help me much, either. I began using Mirena about 2 1/2 years ago, and it is truly wonderful!!
Just another option....

I have been seriously thinking about going with an IUD. I was looking at the non-hormonal Paragard though.
The only thing I am nervous about is that my current BC provider said that since I have not had a baby yet it would more difficult for me... as in, more painful of a procedure and more likely to be pushed out or dislodged.
If you don't mind me asking.... are you pre- or post-pregnancy?

I'm post..... I have had 2 beautiful babies!!! I haven't had any probs with the Mirena.
Yes, a few of my gf's have had a hard time trying to get one inserted, b/c they haven't had any children yet. But, some docs will do it if you haven't had a child. Def ask around.

just my .02 cents...
I go totally whack on birth control pills... almost impossible to lose weight on them. I told my ob-gyn about my diet, training, contest prep, etc. and asked him if Mirena was the right one for me?
He absolutely REFUSED to give me an IUD because I have never had children and because I'm still young... Instead he perscribed Nuva Ring... which is like an IUD... a plastic ring you insert.
He said ALL BC, even IUDs and Nuva will emit estrogen hormones. I decided to try it anyways and it had the same negative effects on my contest prep,,, so I took it out and have been losing BF ever since.
IMHO, If you're trying to lose weight just nix BC of any kind.

Definitely a good idea. Hormones are disgusting. Once they are out of your system you will feel amazing- go for the H-free version.
I am pre- and it was freaking painful, but only for about 10 seconds. I thought I was going to die, but I would do it again. TOTALLY worth it. Make sure you go to an experienced Dr. - you should have no problems at all.
