Help me select a new pistol

I am going to be using it as a carry piece and was very interested in the Glock 33 (I really like the .357 sig round and the new piece will be chambered for it) but I have a Glock 26 and I'm terrified of accidentally getting the mags mixed up - that would be a catastrophe.

My dilemna is I need something comparable in size and weight chambered for .357 that I won't confuse with my baby glock, needs to be similar quality (please no junk), relatively easy to upgrade (decent trigger is absolutely necessary - I don't mind doing a trigger job but I need to be able to do it myself, get parts, etc.) and accurate.

well you want something you can carry? so i wanted the same thing, i went with springfeild..... great company with great products..
their xd line is great. i have the xd-40, sub compact, small but very powerful!
they make a 9 like this also, but i know you want power.

I'd recommend the XD as well, I've heard lots of great things about them. I'd go with the .45ACP however, especially since you're going to be using this for carry that extra stopping power is definetely a plus. Can't argue with 13+1 in .45ACP

As of right now it is the frontrunner - simply because I can't find a really small decent polymer gun - wish I could.

I also hate decockers - I would rather have a stryker fired piece than one I have to slam the hammer down on.

Honestly I don't know much about the Steyr, but the XD's seem to be getting a lot of good reviews lately.

Of course I'm trying to picture you putting a clip of 357 into a 9mm pistol, and having problems. Really if you like the Glocks, stick with it, and just get 13rnd magazines(like a model 32) for the 357(unless you have that size on the 9mm), then it should never be an issue to spot the right magazine.

I haven't been able to ascertain whether or not the magazines will go into the different guns (model 26 and model 33) - going to visit a gun shop and play with the wares soon. If they will go in I have a problem, the fiance has a 26 also and we have glock 9x19 mags laying all over the place now (they all fit the 26, some just stick out the bottom more than others).

I like the glocks a lot - once you fix the awful trigger (very easy to do) they are extremely good pistols.

I've owned my P-220 since 1990 and have never had an errant discharge from decocking the weapon, I've never seen one either. Mine is getting close to a real tear down and inspection. Now if you want to talk about the Glock 18, now that's a hell of a lot of fun at 1700 rpm.

I'm going to agree with GREENFEATHER (about decockers not Glocks), I have put several thousand rounds through my P97D and I carry it fairly often, and have never had a decocker related discharge.

Just use one of those metallic colored pens and mark the mags for your .357 Sig so you don't mix them up.

This is what I've settled on. A new 33 is in the works along the required trigger parts to make it not suck.

It hurts my soul to drop the hammer on a loaded chamber. I have a 10mm s&w that I've put a ****load of rounds through with no problems and I know of exactly no one who has ever had a problem with a decocker but I can't bring myself to get used to it - I flinch every time I do it.

I couldn't stand my ammo bill if I regularly shot an 18 so I'll have to pass. I do have a class III xm15 (converted by a friend of mine) by Bushmaster but it hurts my wallet to shoot it much so it mostly just sits in the safe.

You need to handle one that's done right - breaks very crisply at 2.7lbs after the correct amount of take up for a twostage (.5"). Use the 3.5lb competition trigger package from top glock or glockmeister, polish the living snot out of everything metal that touches each other and replace the stryker spring with a reduced power version. Takes a lot of time (2-3 hours) but it's not hard at all.

I had Timney customize the trigger in my A-Bolt to the point of stupidity. It was adjustable from .5-3 lb. On the lowest setting, if you thought hard enough it'd fire.

Next time you come through AL shoot me a PM. I've got one 26 that's pretty slick, another that's got the parts in it but no polishing (it's light but still real bad creepy and crunchy) an dI'll have 33 that's slicked up by the end of the month.
