When finding a Deadlift max... (serious)

A 1RM do you count the first pull up or the next down and up as number 1?

On the Bench press it would be down and up, however, I always feel like the initial upward movement of a deadlift is more quad based when bringing it up from the ground.

Reps for the anwser that are helpful. (yes 100 rep power wow, weak yes i know that too)

A deadlift is counted when you bring it from the ground to the lock up position. From there you pretty much just let it down, so there isnt too much strength there. You do have to hang on to it all the wa though.
