What's the highest double overhand grip deadlift?
I doubt there are records for that kind of dl, but what's the highest weight you've seen getting lifted with a double overhand grip?
Videos are welcome!

There's a vid of Brad Gillingham pulling mid-8's conventional stance with a hook grip.

Go to "Movies" and pull down to "Brad Gillingham: 2007 IPF Worlds 390 Deadlift"

drawing a total blank on the black powerlifters name...he squatted 1100ish, deads more than Gillingham I think. uses dbl oh hook grip
also, there are records for stuff like single handed deadlift etc..pretty sure Hermann Goernerr still holds that...well over 700..730..750?? easy to google for though

I'm actually not sure the OP knows the difference. Some clarification from him regarding that woud be helpful.

I can pull somewhere just north of 600 double overhand. It's all I've ever pulled with, except for messing around here and there. It's not that tough when it's what you started with.

In 1933, Goerner deadlifted a barbell using just two fingers of both hands which weighed 595.75 lbs. (ndex and middle finger of each hand)
he lifted 727 ONE HANDED unoficially in 1920
he lifted 663 officially one handed in 1920
he lifted 734 one handed by lifting a block of sandstone with a handle attached (see the modern "Rolling Thunder") Dec 1920
he did a 617 lb 2 barbell dead. one barbell weighed 150kilos the other 130 kilos in 1934
he didnt train a lot and when he did he always trained within himself (failure advocates take note)
also thats WAY pre roids

Like I said, it's the only way I've ever deadlifted, so I suppose that's how it's not a huge deal for me. I only own a #1 COC gripper, and I can close it for reps with either hand, but I've never tried another one. I take that back, I have a friend with a #3, and I sure can't close that one.

You're right, I didn't know the difference
But this is what showed up on google, so I think I got it now:

One of the reasons I asked is I haven't deadlifted for a long time (injury) and I was wondering if it would be possible to develop enough grip strength to hold the maximum weight your back can handle using a double overhand grip. Of course, this probably varies a lot from person to person, but it might be worth a try...

Has anyone here tried this grip? I have and it hurt like crazy. Maybe it just takes some getting used to.

once the skin rips off a few times it grows back tougher than ever, the thumb still numbs up some times on heavy pulls though...

nah, he only weighed 181
he did like 725 at 181 in 1949
pretty sure that stood as the world record for many years REGARDLESS of weight class

I use a hook grip on a few lifts, normally when I do RDL's I will do it on my last set just to work on pain tolerance. In competition that can be the difference between 2 or 3 places on DL for reps. It hurts, but it works, you'll get over the pain later, I've never seen anyone injured from a hook grip personally.

I don't see where it's that hard if you trained for it, I'm positive I could pull 500 with a double overhand
