Really quick question/what's an elite/average/BAD 40 yard dash time for a g.9 student

hard acutally nearly impossible to say what is good for a 9th grader i can however tell u what is good/ average or elite for a junior/ senior to be, and u can judge for yourself what time u think u will realisticaly reach by that age, and compare that to the following

o-line, d-line: average: 5.3 plus, good (college potential) 5.0-5.2, elite 4.9 or below (fastest i have heard of for high school lineman is 4.83-Marvin Austin @ last years PSU Nike training camp)

FB, LB, DE, TE: avg. 4.9-5.1, good: 4.7-4.9 elite 4.5-4.7----hard to really say here because a good size can cary a lot at these postitons and if ur smaller than u need faster times to be more impressive and vice versa.

RB, DB, WR: avg. 4.7-4.9 good: 4.6-4.7 elite anything 4.4 or less (fastest i kno of is 4.26 by Brad kanuch alos 2 last years PSU nike training camp)

That seems about right to me. We just had a combine for the football players and my 9th grade son who plays ILB ran a 5.2. The heavier lineman ran as slow as 5.8/5.9. The so-called skill positions got slightly under 5.0. These are 9th grader 14 and 15 year-old times. The upperclassman were usually quicker, as you would expect.

You are only 14 years old...lots of time to get faster. Keep training and find out how to start faster in the 40 yard dash. The key has got to be the start. Start slow and you don't have enough time/distance to make it up. Can you join the track team and get some sprint coaching? Good luck.

Last year, in 9th grade, I ran a 5.2 on grass, in football cleats. I imagine it'd be a little faster on the right surface, with the right shoes.

But that gives you an idea.

it isn't great for a skill position player, but you're only in 9th grade. usually the kids who run 5.0's and below as freshman are the genetically gifted athletes. i ran a 5.08, so everyone said i had a lot of potential.

If you are talking laser time...

Elite: 4.5-4.8
Average 5.0-5.3
Bad 5.4 or slower...

Now don't forget there are some athletes who are 270 lbs who will obviously not be elite. You need to look at it by position. If you have a 9th grader who is 6'4 270 running a 5.0 I would consider that elite.
