Anyone a fan of Taurus revolvers or autos.
I know that they had a really bad rep a few years ago but supposedely they have improved the quality. I would like a back up for my S&W but I don't know if I want to trust them with my life..I think I just answered my own question, but anyway any thoughts on them.

Revolvers are okay, but the semi-autos are junk.

Great revolvers. Sucky semi's though. I took my friends Taurus out shooting a couple weeks back. Didn't care for it. Jammed twice. Out of like 100 shells. It was clean too. I don't know maybe some of there other semi's might be better.

And that is exactly why I don't like the idea of carrying an auto. There is always that little bit of a chance it will jam..
Thanks guys I think I will just spend another hundred and feel happy with the S&W on the barrel

I've never liked the hammerless revolvers. The trigger pull just doesn't feel right to me.

With a quality piece it's about the same chance that the pawl will break on a revolver. I have a s&w 10mm that had 5000 rounds through it without a cleaning and would still feed empty cases. Hell you couldn't handle the gun without getting filthy.
I would say no on the Taurus guns but that's just me - I'm awfully picky.

Why on Earth would you not clean your gun for 5,000 rounds??
You take care of your weapons, and they'll take care of you.

I totally understand where you are coming from but it works with my theory of how the gun will be used if I ever have to. In the two times I could have used a gun it was not in a TV like setting where you have lots of room. I would have had to shoot someone point blank and I don't want the possibility of a hammer hanging on something on the way out therefore I accept the trigger pull factor.

Stress test. I was trying to see how long it would go without cleaning or lube before malfunction. I have no idea because it never malfunctioned and I gave in first, cleaning that nasty thing at 5250. The same piece will hold a 1" group at 50 yards. I still have it and have harvested one of the largest deer on my wall with it at forty yards +/-. I've also won a lot of money with it from people who don't know me .
I got my hands on a 1076nms in the late 90's that obviously had some extensive work done on it (whether by an FBI armorer or the performance center I have no idea). I dug through a whole box full of those things that a friend had - she owned a gun shop at the time - to find it. After I shot it we realized it was a hell of a lot more accurate than anything I have bought off the shelf and got curious. We tried everything in it (except lead bullets, I was curious, not stupid) and couldn't make it malfunction. It really would feed empty cases! So now you know the story - I obviously don't have a life!
btw - I hate decockers and flinch every time I slam the hammer down on that thing. No manual safety, so it has to be done.

I have that identical revolver but in black finish, I love it.
I also have a 22 semi pistol, it is hard to load the first bullet, but it seems ok after that.

I'm not a fan of either of Taurus's weapons. My wife used to shoot PPC competitively and there were guys there with 100,000+ rounds through their weapons. The S&W's were still as tight hell, the Taurus's had some play. I carry a Sig Sauer P220 in .45 acp and have had 1 malfunction in 500,000+ rounds and that was due to me not crimping the reloads enough.
If you're going to bet your life on a piece of equipment, this is not the place to save a buck!!! Pick up a copy of The Gun List or Shotgun News, both were available at Wallyworld and see what you can find used.

I have a Rossi 357 2"BBL in Blue. Rossi firearms are own by Taurus, same thing. As to Double Action,Single Action,Double Action Only Revolvers. I prefer Single/Double Action revolvers. I prefer to have the option of going Single and Double action. I am not a big fan of DAO trigger pull.
That was actually the first handgun I purchase with out my father signing for me. They are great revolvers to say the least. They are also cheap. Many people don't like them cause they are foreign and they will only buy "AMERICAN". ( Smith Wesson, Colt, Cough, Cough,Cough ). If you get into handguns u will see a lot of this. Don't listen to these people, they are douche bags. Don't get me wrong I own more Colts and Smith Wesson firearms than any Brazilian made handgun. The reason is cause of taste, not politics. My Rossi is just as good as good as my Smith Wesson.
As to Autos, I have never shot one or held one in my life. Sorry can't say much. The NRA sure take a liking to them.http://www.taurususa.com/main/index....TOKEN=64725305
Overall
Would I buy a Taurus revolver ? Yes,
Would I buy a Taurus Auto? No, It's only 1911's for me.
Spare the reps, bang a chick.

That's sad, I would like for a firearm to prove it's worth in other ways and for BPP I am sorry if you had to see the damage. ONe thing I know is it never gets easy...

A friend has one....the gun is dead nuts accurate at 25 yards with a scope (as it should be), you can literally shoot through the same hole every time. BUT...it's damn tough to keep your eyes open while doing so. The gun is a blast! literally, and it's a blast to shoot.

Solution, buy a SIG. You get what you pay for. Out of 500 rounds in my new p220st not one single jam.

How can that mean that it won't. It only has to do it once.

lol, 500rounds isn't merely a testament. That's still break-in territory! They are awesome guns though, and I doubt you will ever experience a jam. For a semi, my top three are HK, Glock, and SIG.

Shunned, Unshunned
Taurus works for me
I've got a Taurus 24/7 9mm 17 rd
http://www.taurususa.com/products/pr...ategory=Pistol
I like it, fits my hand perfectly (as opposed to the glock and others) and it was cheap, under $450 with 2 boxes of ammo from Bass Pro shop. It's my first gun and it's only a few months old, so I can't tell you about long term reliability just yet. I have put probably close to 1000 rounds through it with not a single problem.

Forever aBOARD
I have a friend who has a .38 Taurus wheelgun... The piece that holds the cylinder in broke off. So when you try to empty the rounds the whole thing falls off.
Not really a fan.

Picked SIG on advice of Uncle who spent 25 years as Navy Seal. Asked him what he prefers and why. He told me they used the SIG in many teams and the guns took tons of punishment and kept going.

taurus makes GREAT revolvers, but some of their lower end pistols look like junk.
But they make great sem auto pistols too, as long as you pay good money for it!
But i'd personally rather get a springfield or S&W,glock, or beretta
I'd only buy a Taurus if it was a GOOD gun and I got a good deal on it and it had everything I wanted.
You pay what you get for.
If it's for personal protection, obviously this can be you life, so you need something EXPENSIVE. And DEPENDABLE.
Your best bet is a revolver, they are more reliable for the dollar, but obviously dont carry many rounds.......but unless you have alot of enemys, you shouldnt need more than 2 or 3 rounds.

Does your friend know that Taurus has a free lifetime repair warranty on any Taurus firearm? That is for the complete life of the firearm, and not the owner whether it's a first owned gun or not.
