i was reading the new issue of muscle & fitness and rack pull is an exercise in one of their new workout programs. they dont really describe what it is other than the top part of a deadlift. has anybody ever heard of this or done it and can give a little more info on it.
The rack pull is that you put the safety stops in on a power rack(height will be determined by the individual based on their height), in order for the weight to not go all the way down to the floor. It is to strengthen the "stick spot" in the lift. The point at which you tend to slow down and get stuck in the range of movement.

Works out grip if you hold the lockout on top, works traps, all lower back.
Looks like you have some good weight there. But you should pull from below knee level. It also looks like your left elbow is slightly flexed, that's a good way of pulling your biceps

If that's the case just go for full heavy deadlifts from the floor. I never did them when I started training. Now they are the staple of my back routine. Start with light controlable weight to get form down. Then start blasting them heavy.
