I am surprised that Bertil didn't place higher in the early 80's Olympias.
He looked like a smaller version of Coleman.

Nice article but I find it funny when they say stuff like he took on a new trainer to break through the size barrier. "A combination of factors enabled Frank to break through this first big sticking point(Y NEEDLES IN ARMS. The first factor was a man named Bob Sorge. (DIRECT INJECTOR OF STEROID HELPER... SHOW OTHER MAN HOW TO SAFELY INJECT NEEDLES INTO ARMS SO HE DOESN'T INJECT OXYGEN INTO BLOOD STREAM WHICH IS VERY BAD FOR THE HUMAN BODY."

I for one think it's total bunk to say "Zane wasn't 'big enough' to win the O"...IF what I've read is correct, he is a very small boned guy with 6 1/2' ankles and wrists so packing on mass just wouldn't happen, thus he'd have to strategically work it and create the illusion that IS bodybuilding...granted Menzter, Robinson and Viator were more massively built but Zane's combination of near flawless proportiions, crazy good (for that time) conditioning and mass was good enough to win the Mr. Olymia three times and IMO, he should've compteted in 1981 (I think he would've won it) AND he should've beaten Dickerson in 1982...no disprespect the Chris Dickerson but he won it with a good build, good conditoning and the sympathy vote/benefit of the doubt (he "deserved" to win it or it was "his turn") for the 1980 and 1981 O's and the controversial results...when I was younger I too looked at the "most massive" guy as the nearly automatic winner (like Mentzer or Viator) and to give all due respect, they did build impressive physiques but in time I also grew to appreciate the extraordinary physique that Zane has crafted... having said that, it's the job of the competitors to convince the judges that they are the winner and the judges make the call...the only one completely satisfied with the outcome is most often the evenetual winner...

Frank just had a small frame (small wrists, ankles etc), a lot of muscle (compared to normal people) and was VERY cut. That's why he was competing at only 180-185 lbs at 5'9. My dad had a very similar build to Zane back in the day, he was 5'7, 165 lbs at 6-8%. Realistically with 6" wrists I'd be lucky to even reach 180 lbs sub 15%.

I'm no pro either by any means just training for Mr Minnesota fitness category in 2021. I'm 34 years old. 6'3" 218 lbs currently 10% bf. Only been serious for 8 months after finally quitting the booze after being an alcoholic 15 years. My arms are currently 17.25 cold at 10% bf. I'm a personal trainer etc. Medically retired Army vet I know what to do as far as training and nutrition goes. Tryin to get an average consensus of what people think I can reach. I'm positive I will reach 20" with 5 more years to go even at 10% bf. What body fat % do I need for a fitness category and how much do you think I would lose from 20" cold at 10% dieting down to what %? The past 8 months the scale has stayed at 218 while I have gained 2 inches on each arm. Still leaning out to my natural % after not drinking a case of beer everynight for 15 years lol. Even then i was around 12% eating complete **** and my testosterone levels are still very high. Yes I know your gonna say it's almost impossible to reach 20 naturally but I'm determined to prove them wrong. Thanks!!
