Freshwater Bass Fishing
Its getting around that time for some good bass fishing! Got any bass fishermen on the boards?
If so, I would be interesting in hearing some fishing reports from around the country.

StlBarbies b*tch
I am a multi species angler.
Currently here in Ohio, with warmer than usual weather, the LM are cruising in 4-6' FOW.
Any minnow pattern is working well, with the best being the 2" Gold Rapala cranked and paused.
LM up 5lbs have been steady the last week. Heavy cold front moving in today, will slow things down a bunch.

Thank God, someone is getting out there and fishing. I'm hating that I'm here in the sandbox when spring is right around the corner. My best bait as the weather turns warmer...Zoom Super Fluke, Shad or Pearl colored, using a light weight spinning rod with a fast tip. 3/0 Gamakatsu hook is all the weight you'll need.

Im in S Florida so the bass feed year round, I went out in my backyard lake for a few hours and there were tons of young bass and fry, the big bass were in schools of 5-10 cruising the shoreline and were hitting my flukes like they were going out of style.

Hell yea....Its getting unseasonably warmer and warmer here in southern Illinois, but with all the rain this last week the water is murky as hell......Im gonna give it another week and then its off to the grandmothers house to put in the boat, and then hit the old rip rap banks with a cooler full of beer and a bag full of culprit plastic worms....Cant wait to feel the first "tap, tap, tap" of the year.....

I'm planning on heading out this weekend to see if the bite has warmed up any. Last time I dropped the boat in (Virginia), the water temperature was creeping up near 50 degrees. Hopefully in a month or so the water will warm up enough to establish a decent spring pattern. Probably be using a combination of jigs and soft plastics until then. I'll be sure to update how this weekend went.

Bass fishing in the spring is all about bed fishing.
Its the best time of year to catch a hawg because the big females are up shallow laying eggs.
You can get right up on them and piss them off into biting.
In clear water a worm drop shotted on a nest is deadly. Use bright colors like chartruese. A 4" chartruese ring worm texas rigged is deadly as well.
If their not interested in that throw a big ass swimbait past the nest and bring it through it. A large bait like that is a big threat to their nest and often they will hit that when nothing else works.
If the water is murky target shallow trees with a jig. Throw it tight to the tree and work around it.
Look for water that has a hard bottom. When your looking for beds just look for a bright round clean spot on the bottom of the lake.
If the bass aren't up shallow yet look for bass right where the water first starts to drop off into deeper water (usually around 6-8 feet).
Friday i'm heading up to Clear Lake for a couple days of bass fishing. Its one of the best bass lakes in the country. It holds a wad of 5-10 lb bass. Lake record is 17 1/2 pounds give or take on ounce.
If your fishing a tournament there you better have a 35-40 lb sack if you want to think about winning.

Tired of being lied to
I cannot wait for Bass fishing. I really don't like to fish too early, I enjoy it when I have to work for them.
I may end up in lake Erie and shenango lake as soon as the weather breaks. I know shenango has some nice hybrids there, for anyone who knows where it is located.

Every calorie's a war
Bass Season doesn't start here for another few months so I'm holding my breath. However the weekend it opens I'm camping for the long weekend at Grundy Lake so there should be some good Fishing happening that weekend.
Right now I just have my mind set on trout season opening.
I usually rep back.

"And when that time comes and you find something standing if front of you, something that ain't running and ain't backin up and is hittin on you and you're too damn tired to breathe. You find that situation on you, that's good, Cuz that's baptism under fire! Oh you get through that and you find the only kind of respect that matters in this world, Self respect."

Me, a bass fisherman...surely not. Actually I love LM Bassing. I also catfish and will be adding crappie to my list this year. I live in south-central IL so bass not great big like other areas but still fun.
Fishing. If it were easy, it would be called catching.
Bass and Walleye,
Catfish and trout,
I'm telling you now,
you better look out!
You were safe in the lakes
while I was home wishing.
But be on your guard,
'cuz I'm going fishing.
