Hey Fitnessman
You're the keto man - so lets talk about this here - that'll breath some life into the 35+ section.
So what do you do? Give us a look at your eating schedule for a normal day. Do ya just do protein & fat all day and sod all carbs and have a carb day once a week?
the 35+ are the ones that struggle against the bulge so it's really going to interest them.
Cheers

Thanks fitnessman
I'm trying to get my head around this whole keto thing. So your post workout shake is the only "carbs' you're getting in there. I'm sort of playing/experimenting with this keto thing at the moment because I want to get my bf % down. I'm at 18/17 and want to get to 10%. If you interested how about I do it and you give me some advice and we monitor the progress? Only if you're interested and you think others would get something out of it. I reckon they would.
Some initial questions:
I see that you don't have a shake before bed?
What are Slim Jims?
How much water do you have in a day?
Do you always have as much whole food or do you swap out shakes?
Let me know what you think?

Good idea Jimmy !

Welcome Home Chi_Town
Wondered if you'd wind the pacemaker up and come back where the old fella's roam. I know you're interested in Keto stuff and so is Manteca I think. It seems to be a diet type of choice for the older guys when the old gravity gets hold of the chest and pushes it downwards towards the knees! I though it would be kinda good in here away from some of the other stuff like "I want to gain mass in 2 days" " Help I need to grow 60 pounds in 3 weeks". We're past pimples on our bums eh?

I asked this question a few months ago and gots lots of answers. I have access to a PC so I looked around a few sites suggested. The best little program I found so far was www.inovativelogic.com called crosstrainer II. You can download it and use it free for a month or so. Does all sorts of stuff. I've only played with the nutrition bit. It has loads of foods in their and you can add you own and stuff. Poke in what ya eat and it gives a breakdown by meal day etc... Worth a look. I'm not disciplined enough to do it every day though. The older we are the reckon the more influences there are and pulls on our time - work - family - gym - although we have focus we'll never have the time that say a young person at university has.

I am 212 right now so I shoot for 2900 cals a day.
Carbs wind up at around 80g for the day, I try to eat fibrous veggies with most meals.
320 carb cals
860 protien cals- 215g Min.
1720 fat cals- 191g
No shake before bed for me. I like ZMA so it works best on a empty stomach.
I drink a gallon and half of water plus LOTS of green tea.
I only use shakes post work out I would rather eat.
The beauty of a keto is you can cut with more calories...a little more
Slim jims are spicy beef snacks,, one of my favs.
The above ratio works for me real well, it does vary by individual..
I am at work gotta run, I will babel more later!

How true !!!
I am actually amazed at the time I have been able to devote to my fitness. I have two kids 5 and 7, a wife, a demanding job as an engineer (some days I work like 11-12 hr days), not to mention business trips (that make proper diet tough - though I think I do well)
What I hate is that I'm affraid to take my Protein and Meal Replacements with me, like I ususally do on a trip.
Since September 11th the damn airports and security can delay you to the point of missing your flight.. I don't want to be like majorly delayed.
Damn It, I want to get home so I can WORKOUT.

Actually, I'm going to a customer's plant who packages Slim Jim's and Beef Jerky in Gardner, NC either this monday or on the 21st.
Not sure, the damn snow storm in the SE may postpone my trip.
Maybe, I can get you a FREE box and drop ship to you.
Interested ???

Man - at least you get around the place a bit and that would keep life interesting. I hear you about the 11th stuff. We could only look on from a distance and feel for you people. I guess its' caused a lot of hassle for you. To give you an idea of how far from you I am - we're a ten hour flight from Hawaii - South!
I'm the opposite - I'm stuck at a desk for 10-12 hours a day! So I can eat what and when I like really. I'm not really a food person - so don't really care what I eat so much as far as taste goes - which means I have to be careful as I can get lazy and just eat anything.
Yep 2 kids and wife as well!
Cheers

Been lifting off and on for 19 years. At one point I had left rotator cuff recurring problems. Once I started consistently working external and internal cable L flies, that went away, but I'm still very careful with wide grip pull-up or pull downs.
Right now I'm bothered by shin splints, and trying suggested exercises to help those.
I work maintenance exercises often to keep wrists, rotator cuffs, and knees flexible, that has been the way I've stayed mostly injury free.

Except some morning cardio (4am), I make time after work and sometimes after dinner. The older my kids get, the more time they seem to need from me. I guess that will be true until they are teenagers. (That's when I buy them both chastity belts and lock them in the basement. (haha))
Isn't life grand?
fitnessman,
Looks like my monday trip is being postponed to the 21st.
I'll see what I can get my hands on for you when I get there.
If I can get you some, I'll ship it to my work and then you can give me that shipping address later.

Man 5 kids - thats doing it!
Help - Cool - OK - I got inspired by you guys talking about keto. So a week agao I thought I'd give it a bit of a go. Just lacking knowledge and experience. So what I've done is basically cut out the carbs (except milk). I'm an early riser. Train 4 days a week in the early afternoon.
The first day without carbs felt like I was getting sick like the flu or something. So I went to bed real early and woke up fine. Day Zero 251lbs - a week later (today) 242lbs. Guess a bit of water loss eh. Now I need to understand what's happening and what to do about it. Gym is closed for another two days so that will mean I've had about 10 days off.
do you want to know what I've been eating?

Hey Chi-town
WOAH!
Started that Syntrax MM4 and ADIPO today - thought I'd give them a whirl to see if I could give the old endomorphic gutasaurus maximus a bit of a shift.
Man they wind the old Metabolic rate up a bit - I had to crank on the airconditioning to keep from sweating. Its summer here so I'll be dripping in the Gym tomorrow.
Did ya get your mail?

I smoked for 25 years till precancerous changes forced surgery and gave me the opportunity to quit..(cant smoke for a week in hospital...might as well run with it)..then ...wow I can breath...wonder how it would feel if I started walking more... then it was wonder how it would feel if I started lifting a little... every time something made me feel good I add something else to my routine... this thing is a snowball

Thermo's work well for me too.
Smoking will KILL you !!!
I don't think smoked foods are to bad, but they may contain some traces of carcinagens. I love smoked turkey and chicken.
Just drink a few more green tea's throughout the day. (haha)

Try the bigger huka pipe, the bowl is bigger, you could fit a whole chicken in there. You could get on with multiple hoses attatched that way you could share with friends.

Cigarettes
Yeah - I smoked up until three years ago. Glad I did. Bad.
Just on the smoked food thing - its really only chicken and fish that I like smoked. I know brown sugar is used in the smoking. I know it pollutes the food to a certain extent. I try and do the organic food thing as much as I can - try and avoid as many of the additives/crap as I can. Certainly b4 all this I must have injested a lot of **** by not eating clean, smoking etc.. Life is better this way eh?

I tried Green Tea in Japan about 10 years ago and nearly hurled. Funny thing it that about three months ago I got some at the supermarket by mistake and tried it and now have about three cups a day and love it!
My friends think its a bit strange though - who cares eh?
