Bad Keto!?
I am considering starting a keto diet but I have not seen anything talking about the negative side effects of this diet. Everyone I train with tells me its bad for my kidneys and I'll die or all kinds of crap.
I have been lifting for a few months now and would like to "cut up" is this the diet for me? Also, what are the negative possible side effects of this plan.
Thanks

I started keto, If you die you'll prove them right, if you dont they will look real smart and you will be cut. Read the book, actually its free online someone posted a pfd of it. I have it saved if you want it. Im no doctor but the only thing that should be monitored would be blood sugar if you have some kind of medical condition. Ended up only taking me a day to get into keto and i wasnt even trying very hard

Go Cubs!!
Keto in itself does not cause a kidney problem. The problem is, people are so afraid of fat that they do what they think is a better form of keto. They eliminate crabs and go low fat. A diet that high in protein will cause your kidneys to overwork. If you follow the diet the correct way, it's pretty safe.
All I can say is get your blood work done before you start the diet. After a month or 2 or 3 on keto get your blood work again. Then you have your proof to show your friends on how healthy the diet is for you.

The main negative side effects are social. Your family will panic, your SO will worry, your doctor will lecture, and every stranger on the street will feel free to tell you why you are an idiot.
Eating out on keto is possible, but you need to be more creative and assertive when ordering. You can't just grab a sandwich when you are in a hurry.
You may find you have more bad breath (fruity rather than really horrible, but noticible) and stronger smelling pee.
On the plus side, you will lose bodyfat and probably gain muscle. You will improve your general health. You will raise you testosterone levels. You will increase your bone density. You will increase your fertility and sex drive.
65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs = keto.

NEGATIVE: u will be constantly trying to convince ignorant idiots of real facts (after they have regurgitated a heap of crap), while they put their hands over their ears and go "la la la la la"
i recently had a conversation the other day about it. an individual asking me "but how healthy is that". knowing he was an open minded and intelligent individual i didnt mind, and pointed out inuit and paleothic diets. although he couldnt fault the health of inuits, he did say "but paleo man ate lots of nuts and berries". which i had to correct in saying that that stuff is rarely abundant, especially in comparison to meat and fish, irregardless of which, most nuts hav large amounts of fiber almost negating the effect of carbs, and berries aren't actually that heavy in carbs either.

Haha, I'm in a "Biological Sciences" class right now, and we're studying Macro Nutrients.
After chatting about what I'm eating my teacher just about wanted to come to my house, throw out my food, and would cook for me. She was basically trying to convince me that through Ketosis it will lead to Acidosis and I won't make it to the end of semester.
After I pass her class (unfortunately gotta take it for a preq), lean up while eating what I am eating, and NOT dying. I'll show her!!, but she will most likely claim fluke.
She's a weird vegetarian BioChem professor, and old. *shrug* whatever.
As for Negatives, I think everyone has hit it right on the mark. "bad" breath, stinky pee, and "explaining yourself" until you become tired of it and just nod and agree, while still munching on your Bacon dipped in Olive Oil
It's funny that pirates would go from shore to shore looking for buried treasure when the real treasure was in the friendships they were making along the way.

First post and I just have to say Thanks a lot for the tremendous response time and motivation. I think if my current plan doesn't get me where I need to be soon, I will def try Keto.

teacher are undoubtedly alot of the time amongst the least intelligent of creatures on this planet. also most often VERY narrowly read.

Negative sides?
1) 99% to-go foods (at least the ones sold here) arent keto friendly.
2) High grocery bills. Carbs are cheap.
3) The stare. (I'm an Asian in Asia and I dont eat rice as often. Imagine the gasps)
4) Having to prepare everything urself (see point 1)
5) Strong pee smell - enough to kill bathroom pests sometimes.
6) Low-carbs subtitutes often taste like cardbord, or hv weird aftertaste.
I have to buy my Splenda, Walden Farms chocolate syrup, oils (borage, CLA, krill, sesamin, almond), Irish steel-cut oatmeal etc online. Often, shipping costs more than the items

I can't say I've had any negative effects. I make all my food so it's easy to plan ahead because my schedule is constant.
I haven't had the best carb days and have still lost weight.
Started at 217...down to 207 today
I believe I'm at a month right now. I've been VERY happy with what has taken place over that time. I'm confident 3-4 lbs of fat have been lost judging by how I look in the mirror.
I don't get questioned by others because they have no reason to. If out of shape people criticized how I ate that would be ridiculous. Most people know I'm level headed anyways and therefore don't really question me. That's been nice.
