K so I've been dieting for exactly a week now, a week ago when i checked my weight it was 86.6 kg (190.5 lbs) @ 23.5% bf. In this week i dropped my daily caloric intake to about 1600-1800 a day and did regular exercise (mainly weights tho, my cardio consists of tennis, soccer and cricket) and now when i checked my weight, its 85.2 Kgs (187.44) @ 21.5% bf. Now i know i have lost some weight, but i was seriously eating 4-5 full sized chocolate bars+a few ice creams and atleast a meal a day at a fast food joint before, shouldnt my weight loss have been more drastic?? Is this a normal drop?

A week means nothing. I've learned this after many failed attempts. After a month you will realize your results. Everything, including me, wants instant results. It never happens, and never will. Just hang in there. Its going to be tough, especially since your diet was really bad. Get yourself some Clif 20g protein bars to keep your chocolate cravings down. Those are the best tasting, all natural, and low on the glycemic index.
And also, your calorie intake may be a bit too low. Bump it up to 2000."Happiness isn't on the road to anything. Happiness is the road."

MUSCLES DO NOT WEIGHT MORE THAN FAT. They do ONLY if you take 1 square cube of fat -vs- 1 square cube of muscle, then yes, in that circumstance it does weigh more... BUT one lb of muscle and 1 lbs of fat is still ONE POUND. The pound of muscle will take LESS SPACE inthe body than the fat. this is a huge misconception people have

no you doofus.. if you take BOTH in VOLUME, then the MUSCLE WILL WEIGH MORE.... if you jsut take 5 lbs of muscle and 5 lbs of fat, the 5 lbs of muscles will take LESS space in your body than 5 lbs of fat and NOT weigh more !! 5 lbs of **** is the same as 5 lbs of feathers

Scales are so misleading and discouraging, I always say throw them out. Don't weigh yourself week by week either, all that will cause is another thought of a wasted week.
If you are lifting and running you won't lose weight fast at first. You'll lose fat and gain muscle and the scale won't tell you that. All the scale says is how much your organs, muscles, fat and water weigh. Don't get down on yourself, this is so typical with all programs. If you look and feel good then do not worry about the scale. Keep up what you are doing and be consistent.
Two percent of body fat and almost 3 pounds total is amazing in a week. Some people would die for that much in a MONTH.

Are you kidding me? You lost about 3 pounds in your first WEEK and you think your diet isn't working? I would KILL to lose 3 pounds a week.
Back when you were eating chocolate bars and fast food, you were most likely in a calorie surplus and gaining weight every week. Therefore, even if you are eating 2000 calories per day LESS than you used to, it doesn't mean you're creating a 2000 calorie deficit every day.

Just keep on working at it. I usually gain weight at first when I decide to get my arse in shape because of the muscle buildup. But then it will start to fall off and you will see some good gains. 1 week is not a lot of time, and losing 3 lbs isn't that bad for a week, keep up the diet and excersice and don't quit and I am sure you will get to where you are going.

allow me to clear this up,precisou2004 is correct....put differently muscle is denser than fat [adipose tissue] true fat takes up more room than muscle...meaning a fatty could be ''bigger'' because per volume, muscle weighs more than fat...a friend went to pick me up and said 'your heavy' i weigh like 179 but carry a decent amount of muscle and not a ton of fat...since i appeared ''smaller'' he thought i ''weighed'' less....does that make sense....i hope! true it is a huge misconception!! everone is right... losing weight is a slow process...the first week is mostly water.....things will slow down because your body will fiqure out whats going on.....slow going bro...dont cut them down to far.below your bmr you can slow your metabolism down.. completely wrecking your fat loss...stay positive bro!!!!!!!.

well to be fair. she did say " muscle in not heavier than fat ", and that is wrong.
yes if u take 1kg of muscle and 1kg of fat. well done it still is 1kg. but that is not how u would calculate if a substance/matter is heavier than the other. it relies on the density of the matter.
now lean muscle ( no fat ) has a density of 1.06 g/ml
fat has a density of 0.9 g/ml
taking that logic means that if u take
therefore, 1 litre of fat weighs 0.9kg
and 1 litre of muscle weighs 1.06 kg. hence muscle is heavier than fat.
to compare 2 substance's weight's u have to compare equal volumes before you can compare weights.

to CLEAR THINGS once and for all, if you take fat -vs- muscles in a VOLUME sense YES the MUSCLE will weigh more, but if you just take 1lb of fat -vs- 1lb of muscle, the muscle will be taking less space in your body DUH...HOW CANT THAT BE ANY CLEARER ?
Muscle therefore is NOT HEAVIER, per say, if you take it pound for pound NOW THAT IS CORRECT if this is what you meant.
End of discussion

That is why the BMI tables are useless, they only go by height and weight, no allowance for muscle vs fat. 1 lb = 1lb period. The volume of 1lb varies with material, muscle is densier than fat, so, 1lb of muscle occupies a smaller volume than 1lb of fat. Equal volumes of muscle vs fat, muscle weighs more per volume. The use of lbs when refering to volume was the only mistake, eveyone was thinking the same, just got the terms confused.

Yes, we all know that a pound of feathers weighs the same as a pound of steel, but it's really annoying to correct someone just because they are talking in terms of weight instead of density. People also use kg when they are talking about how much something weighs, even though kg is a unit of mass. Who cares? If you know what someone means, then stop being so anal about it.

"if you take fat -vs- muscles in a VOLUME sense YES the MUSCLE will weigh more" as u state. u just admitted that muscle weigh's or has a greater mass, if u wanna get scientific, than fat. so what are you on about?
u cant say the same thing and expect ppl to accept that. u have said same thing in the last 4 posts. as with i have given u proof about how different the density's are between muscle and fat.
should i draw picture???There are 10 type of ppl in the world. those who understand binary and those who don't
