Arnie top 5 side by side comparison - side chest and triceps
Decided to combined side chest and the side triceps since there are a lot of similarities here as far as what is evaluated.
On the side triceps, I threw an extra pic of Warren up there just...well, you'll understand why I did when you see it. It's the on the "Side triceps comparison" on the far right. Fuggin insane pic.
same as others, 16x9, blah blah.
Warren: 1st, by a mile and a half, there are no poses where anyone is more dominant in the Arnold than Branch is on these
Insane vascularity and grainy hardness. Purely freakish density. Makes everyone else look like they are about 3 weeks off of contest condition in every shot.
Only cross-striated triceps in the bunch
Pecs are far and away the thickest and most defined in the group.
Delt thickness matched by Gustavo, definition and hardness is not
Relatively trim waistline separates him from Gustavo and Vic
Mel: 5
small chest and delts get overpowered by the competition. "Mass" shots like these are what bury him.
Complete lack of separation between ham and quad as well as poor lower pec development puts him in the back of the pack, relatively speaking. Arms look big on these shots though, but that's in comparison to his underwhelming pecs and delts.
He should really consider trying to vacuum a bit on these to try to help him out in some manner as that is his strongpoint.
Dex: 2
Arm size, excellent oblique and ab definition, trim, flat waist and solid pecs help separate him from the others (aside from Warren) as does his excellent leg conditioning
Pecs are obviously not as big, but still solid and relatively thick. Arms threaten to overwhelm his delts. Great definition everywhere, but nowhere near hard enough to challenge Warren. Tempting to rank him 3rd and everyone else 4th, 5th and 6th due to Warren's dominance in these 2 poses
Vic: 3
Looks pregnant in side tricep. Solid abs, but distended. Big, round, full, but slightly soft (By comparison) pecs, good upper pec development though
GREAT quad/ham thickness and separation. Actually goes toe-to-toe with Warren here. Big arms, of course, best triceps overall in bunch.
Gustavo: 4
Also looks pregnant in side triceps. Arm and delts not quite so dominant here. Chest barely thicker than Dex and not as defined. Delts look great though, as does his arms. Needs deeper separation between ham/quad

I disagree.
Vic does have a little distension showing, and he should take careful note of that, but he is put together, he's the only one with deep separation in the calves. His triceps are BIGGER and BETTER than Branch's. Thicker upper and lower chest, his traps are standing at attention...sorry, I have to disagree here, Victor is taking it to'm here.

i have no heartburn with that. Vic has bigger tri's, and I also agree, better than Warren, but the cross-striations in Warren's tri's almost equal things out.
What isn't equal is the obvious conditioning differential between the two.
as for the calves...you have to look closely at all their calves and see just how bizarrely high Vic's calves are. They're like a little tuna can hanging from behind his kneecap. :P
If Vic didn't have the belly, he'd be in 2nd, close to 1st, but I just cannot, in good consciousness, reward a tummy. I just can't. Makes me feel all yucky.

wow, once again, great "Classic" pics. bannouts striations are completly mind boggling, no wonder he won the O that year. levrone is one of my all time faves, and arnolds chest is great as always. i heard he could balance a cup on his chest in his side chest pose.
i love vics triceps, but u gotta give this pose to brach, the conditioning is INSANE, his head looks like it has striations.
ugh at badell again, just an ugly body.

agreed, once again, on all counts JDB. I gave the nod to Branch because of the conditioning. Vic had the size but you gotta give props to a cross-striated triceps.
I'm still waiting for someone to explain to me why Badell doesn't suck.

Pretty unfair to compare someone onstage when hes drained out all the water in his body, hasnt had a sip of water etc to someone 2 weeks precontest isnt it? Most pros look awesome like branch does in that pic before a competition. when theyre onstage it changes.
compare vic and branch on stage to have a fair judgement.

he was only about 190ish lbs when he won the O.
19" tops. His arms weren't that big (not that he was small or anything)

yeah, that wasn't for a competition though
it says here that he weighed 195-196 in 1983, and was 187 in 1982 O's.

He was 5'8 210. Not sure about his arms, but I would call them about 19-20.
I think he was 196 at the 83 Olympia.

Vic destroys Branch in side triceps.
JOJ's gyno is somewhat overpowering in that photo... thick ass chest nonetheless and sick physique.

I like Branch. But I think the knock on him is that all the muscle is throwing off his physique. A lot of people were suprised he won the New York Pro this year. ( myself included)

His side chest poses never fail to amaze me... I saw a picture of him one time balancing a wine glass, with what looked like wine in it, on his chest.

same as others, 16x9, blah blah.

Complete lack of separation between ham and quad as well as poor lower pec development puts him in the back of the pack, relatively speaking. Arms look big on these shots though, but that's in comparison to his underwhelming pecs and delts.

Branch Warren looks like a f ucking jacked extra from Dawn of the Dead.
