    why is 1500 calories too low for a woman?

    I'm just curious...I want to lose 25 lbs of fat..I'm 5'3 and 140 pounds or so... why is 1500 calories too low for me? I posted this on another part of the site and was told to eat 1700 calories per day. Any advice?

    200 calories makes no difference... well actually, you could turn into a mutant or something...

    Wow if you went all the way down to 1500 and did cardio everyday you could drop 25 lbs pretty fast. Supplement yourself properly, and it could happen a bit faster.

    General diet recommendation formulas that use the BW x 12 (cutting) would mean you should be eating 1,680 kcal/day to lose weight. IMO, 1500 is a little too low and I really don't see why you should eat that little when you can just up your cardio easily to offset the difference in the deficit, simultaneously keeping your metabolic rate higher.

    1250-1500 are Fine, just make sure you take a multivitamin, drink plenty of fluids (hint: Water), exercise 30 minutes a day with cardio, and if you'd like to tone do some light weight training (5-10Lb dumbells should be fine), good luck!

    i lift heavy already... lift 4x per week with cardio 5x per week... was down to 113 lbs but my diet sucked and i ended up bingeing A LOT and gaining weight... that's why im trying really hard to get my diet right this time

    i have pretty good muscle tone but i was skinny fat.. now im chubby fat lol... i dont want to be toned either, i want to be hard with a 6 pack

    Yes, thank you. The whole tone idea just makes me laugh inside. The only thing that makes you look "tone" is good muscle mass and low bodyfat. The whole light weight high rep things is one of the biggest misconceptions ever bred into the gym.
