If you buy a 300 lb olympic weight set for $100-120 you get a bar along with 255 lbs of weight.

Most Wal-Mart stores carry 7' Olympic bars and weights, including 45-pound plates.

The bars are usually pretty ****ty, though. I agree with the previous poster that you are better off buying a decent 300 pound set. You won't get the greatest bar, but it will be better than the ones they sell at Wal-Mart.

    I got a wal-mart bar........nothing wrong with it yet.

I actually like it more than the one my gym has got.....

The grip is better, thats about it....and its like a few pounds lighter.

I paid like $50 for the olympic bar.

It's a bar, it holds weight, im no ronnie coleman, so it does what I need.

    Period.

Just check any decent sized major sporting goods store, they should have a 300 lb olympic set. Sears does too, but they won't be $100-120.

    Link To Sears Weight Sets

Edit: Should ad that sears weights go on sale pretty regularly. The rubber encase set was $190 for about the last month or so - it's currently 335.99. So if you see a set you really want and it's not on sale, it's worth it to wait it out for the "sale".

    Cmonster -

I was probably a litte too harsh...The O-bars that I have seen at Wal-Mart usually have shoulder bolts that hold the sleeves to the bar. That is probably fine for home use. However, I run our high school weightroom and our bars get a lot of use and punishment (we use Texas power bars). Those shoulder bolts wouldn't last very long with high school kids!

But, like you said, the Wal-Mart bars are probably fine for most home use.
