    I have trouble with this exercise, I can do deadlifts fine, but for some reason when I go heavy with the BB row it places strain on my lower back.

    Any tips?

    Try Pendlay Rows. The weight is set down for each rep so there is not such a stabilizing demand required from the lower back.
