I'll try paraphrase some of the things madcow has said:
-It's centered around the big lifts that matter most. I haven't seen many who've run ti complain about weak points, but I've heard lots of "I'm growing like never before".
-It's not a magic program by any stretch. It's a solid program that works well for many.
-It's a good learning tool - it's looks very different from typical magazine/forum stuff. It incorporates progressive resistance and tracking lifts over time. These are the building blocks of any good program.
-Those who run it (hopefully) come away wiht teh understanding that defaulting to 1x/week frequency is a far-from-optimal situation.
-It gets you away from the "1x/week for everything or you'll overtrain" nonsense.
All that said, you certainly wouldnt' want to run it forever. Depending on your goals, you're gonna wanna venture into different rep ranges (i.e. work triples/doubles/singles for max power, use higher reps for hypertrophy emphasis, etc.) and your training capacity will change over time.
Basically the program you're on should reflect your experience level and goals. For most who post here, 5x5 is gonna be a great fit becasue most are fairly new (less than ~5 years experience) and want to get big/strong. Starting with a program like 5x5 will put these people light years ahead of most gymrats. Then when the time comes for something new, they'll have a really good grasp of training and will be able to tweak their training to fit their needs.Last edited by Guinness5.0; 03-02-2006 at 04:27 PM.
