You tell somebody they have a strained muscle that will lead to a severe tear in a few weeks if they keep pushing it instead of resting, and the usual response is 'well, what if i cut my bench weight from 260 to 250.....will that be enough to let it heal?'
I swear, most people are morons.

look at the third post, although i can't tell whether he's joking or notI have been Michael's number two guy for about five years, and we make a great team. We're like one of those classic famous teams. He's like Mozart and I'm like Mozart's friend. No, I'm like Butch Cassidy and Michael is like Mozart. You try and hurt Mozart, you're gonna get a bullet in your head, courtesy of Butch Cassidy.

You're right $AJ, most people are idiots. But wouldn't i be right in saying that the people you rag on for being stupid are often doing things that you yourself did before you were properly educated?

IMO, it all comes down to the individual. We all have different thresholds of what we're willing to tolerate in order to reach our goals. And not everyone is cut out for it. Are you telling me I'm a moron for thinking that way? This isn't stamp collecting, we're throwing heavy weights around and occasional pain and injuries are always going to be a part of it. Look at all contact sports: who doesn't finish up around 30-35 with a bunch of injuries? So were they morons for taking up football or whatever? They're the risks, accept them or quit and play chess if you can't take it. I've never taken a week off for anything but a flu. Have I tweaked/strained/pulled muscles before? Yes. Did I ever take more than a few days off? No. Why? In every case the problem seemed manageable and I was right. You would have been on the phone to your doctor every time no doubt.
In fact, just the other day I felt a strain around the rear delt warming up on presses and yes, I trained through it even though it bothered me and I had two people in my ear acting like experts saying "could be your ROTATOR CUFF" (repeat several times). Well guess what? I've trained twice since then, heavy, and not even the slightest twinge. If I'd listened to you I'd still be on the sidelines.
Serious to me is a torn rotator cuff/biceps/pec/etc. or sharp, acute pain that simply will not go away and seems to be getting worse. Otherwise I'll train lightly or attempt to train around it. It's my body and I can do whatever I like. If I think it's serious I'll rest or see a doctor. Otherwise, I'll train. I've always wondered, have you ever done a physical job in your life, you know, where day in, day out, you're sore, your back hurts, your neck hurts, everything hurts, but you've got to pay the bills? You're always bragging about Porsches and stuff so probably not.

Plus, consider that opinions and reactions to injury of teenagers partly comes from the fact that their bodies are made of self-healing rubber that repairs itself in 2 days and then begs for more fun and excitement. It takes the experience of lingering injury to make them be more cautious. They haven't had that yet, therefore it seems like someone else's problem.
