Bouldering: Any Boulder folks or Climbers out there?
Does anybody do any bouldering out here? I used to be a lot better at it before I put on on a lot of mass, but I still really enjoy grabbing the chalk bag and my shoes and heading off to a nice rocky area.
I first started bouldering in Spain about 4 years ago. After doing it for about 5 months, I was hooked.
The coolest place I have ever boulder climbed was in Valencia where they drained the river that went through city and made a huge garden garden park. The old stone bridges had large bases that were perfect for boulder climbing, so a lot of people were always there climbing.
It fascinated me how good some people were, and how easily and quickly they could move around on the walls...

No but I go cave climbing(made up term) regularly. It's pretty similar in some cases as you're inside a mountain skirting down a 100 foot drop off, with about 4-5 feet between the rock behind you and the rock in front of you.
You should try it sometime.

Done a some climbing. One of my favorite places to climb is some of the cool canyons in death valley national park. This is a picture from earlier this year it's up a desolate canyon and the payoff is the waterfall that most tourist don't know about.
You can, and need to find a ground that you know you are suppose to stand on.. hence, stand your ground, this is the place where you know everything is as it should be for you. If you stand in a place where you know in your heart things are wrong, most things around you will never be right.
Rule number one, never work at being what another man defines as being "honorable", Honorable is is being true to what you know and and doing what you know is right for you..

I'd love to do this. I've only ever done it once, a 130 ft cliff but hel that was great.
Problem is, the area where I live is very flat, saltmarsh, really so there's nowhere TO climb apart from the wall in the leisure centre, but that's tiny.
i cant believe there is only on climbing thread!!! i go climbing about once a month and more in the summer time. there are places all over the place where I live. about 30 minutes from tahoe california. like it was said earilier though the more mass you gain the harder it gets. i do alot of grip strength exercises in the gym now though to try and make it easier. one thing i found to be working is pinching the hub of a plate and holding it. try and work your way up to a 25lber! that and i will hang from the molding around a door.
if anyone plans on making a trip out to nor cal or reno/tahoe area shoot me a pm or email and i'll show you some good spots.
1 year out!

Dude, I grew up in Tahoe....went to South Tahoe High School and joined the military from the Carson City MEPS.
My mom lives in Carson City and my bro is in Vegas. I've got family in the Round Hill area too.
Never did too much climbing but I did ski, dive, hike and bike.
I don't get out there too often these days but the family and I will be moving to Santa Rosa in a year or so.
I liked climbing when I lived in Colorado, right now im stuck in Louisiana and there isnt much to climb.

Nice, I was thinking about moving to Carson City, how is it? Mainly was thinking about snowboarding @ Heavenly. Is it expensive in C/C?

I recently moved from Colorado, too. Loved bouldering. Unfortunately, the only serious injury i got was from doing a heavy leg day and then going bouldering the next day. Tore my hamstring ligament and it took over a year to heal.
yikes... tought break. I bulked up pretty heavy at one point and lost some of my agility and climbing ability -I just couldnt hold myself to the rock when my weight was around 210.
Since I started doing BJJ and road biking again, I have cut down a lot. Where I did lose a lot of that big brute strength, I feel a lot more athletic at 193 and dont mind that shredded look. I guess I will stay like this until next Fall, then maybe hit another giant bulk.
