yes. there is a chance she may have decided she wants to live for a while and not simply be killed off. if we kill her, we are killing that chance.

Being a minority, I don't think about it 24/7. On the other hand, being disabled would be something you have to deal with everyday, and being insulted for that would be much more painful than being insulted for your race. You can't compare the two.

With advances in gene manipulation, we'll eventually be able to prevent birth defects, anyway.

But, I have an alternative solution in the mean time..

Maybe devise some sort of cryogenic stasis thing. This would be a good invention for several reasons... say someone wants to die because of their defect. Heck, put them in stasis and wake them up when there's a cure. Or just good for people who want to commit suicide in general. Unhappy with your life? No friends/family? Hope in stasis and start completely over in 100 years.

Where are you getting this info that doctors don't know what's going on until the baby is born? We have scanners that can look inside the womb, we have technology that can determine the baby's sex before it's born, yet we can't detect birth defects such as lack of limbs? I'd like some proof before I believe this.

You can't detect ALL defects before birth. The baby needs to come out of the mother to get the big picture.It's common sense.

As long as the mind is still intact, i don't think parents should be obligated to abort (although tis entirely reasonable to do so).
Abortion should ALWAYS be done if someone is to be born with distrophy or some severe genetic disorder that affects body and mind.

Pretty good point. It probably should be up to the parents, I guess I just don't understand how parents can be happy seeing their kids grow up if they have deformities, or if their kids aren't happy from them.
