Hi guys,
Here are a few quick shots. As you will be able to tell, I haven't worked much on posing yet but someone is helping me out very shortly. I'd like to practice for 16 good weeks, where it's a lot harder than it looks. I'll be upping the tanning sessions this week coming as well.
Pics of my legs will follow shortly. A friend just snapped a few shots but I didn't have my posing trunks with me.
Obviously I could use more size and have a lot of work to do, but this is really just a starting point to get experience for future contests.
I'm doing the novice under 165 and light weight open (<154 lbs.).
No I would say, you need to get more cut.... Size takes time... Your size is good enough for this show... Look at from a long-term perspective.. At least I do... In fact, I have gotten bigger slowly and naturally, the way its supposed to happen... In my 1st show, I came in at 168 BUT, not cut enough... However, now, I am weighing 170-172 and more cut!!! I was squatting 315 for 4-5 reps before my 1st show... 5-6 months later, I am squatting 315 for 8-10 reps!! My bench is also higher from 185 for 6-8 reps, to 185 for 10-12 reps!!! For size, I'd advise eccentric training 2 ways (120% for max with assisted concentrics AND/OR regular weight with partner resisted negatives).... Statics also work along with partials.. Hell, even changing the angle or feel of an exercise makes one grow!! Just last week, I did reverse grip military presses on the smith machine...And with light weight, but I could feel my shoulders growing as I did them... It was a different but awesome feel to a new exercise... for cutting, you got to go for reps.. otherwise, id say you look pretty good....

Hey Ivan,
Thanks for the reply. I wanted to go really slowly on the diet so figured 18 weeks would be the way to go. I'd like to be ready early, and I'm the type of person who hates to have to rush on anything and feel like he's playing catch-up. I've been told to go for cuts with this show. I've seen some of the competitors come in smooth, even in this low weight class...
I know what you mean on switching things up like that. I do close-grip reverse bench presses for my tris on the smith machine, and they work wonders. I do them probably once a month, every 4th tri workout.
