I'm 40 today!! Yaaa hoo!
Hey guys - trying to deal with this big life event! I'd say I'm in much better shape (cardio-wise and BF%) than I was when I turned 30. My only regret is that I didn't start lifting weights seriously and getting educated about BB when I was 15. But hey, it's never too late, right?
Please take a look at my gallery and give me some HONEST feedback on what I need to focus on. Maybe an estimate of BF% also.

Happy Birthday, scfit - and welcome to the "club"! Many of us didn't take fitness and bodybuilding seriously until later in life and the fact that you are in better shape at "40" than at "30" speaks volumes. You are right on when you say "it is never too late"!
I didn't start to train *seriously* until in my late 50's. I am now age 71 and, like you, never felt better. Since there is so little quality info on the web aimed at us "seniors", I created a non-commercial (I have absolutely nothing to sell) site to encourage, inspire and motivate the "Over 40's" gang. Yes, there *is* life after 40, 50, 60 and even 70. Please take a peak at: http://netconex.com/kenchi
Don't quit!!!!!

happy birthday!
I turned 40 a year and a half ago and I realized it is only the beginning. Congratulations on your fitness progress.
As far as feedback on your pictures, I would say you need to consume one gram of protein per lb. of body weight. This will increase your muscle size and density. I had been working out for many years, but it wasn't until I was 38 that I started counting my grams of protein and boy did it ever make a difference. Within six month my friends were commenting and some calling me arnold just for fun.
What happened was that I started gaining muscle weight. Three years later my waist has stayed the same or averaged smaller than it was three years ago and I now weight 20 lbs. more than I weighted three years ago. The reason for the change? Protein. By basing my diet on protein, I changed my whole look. You are off to a good start.
Incidently, at age 36 or 37 I saw a picture of me on the beach and I thought "Why the h--- do I not look more muscular after working out year after year?!" It was all because of my diet. I didn't eat much to stay trim, and I probably had very little protein, like half or a third of what I needed. Once I started counting those grams, my body changed within months.
Good luck and again, happy birthday!!
Lane

Happy birthday! The pics look good. Are you looking to bulk up or just stay trim?

Thanks Stephenlouis! I would like to do a clean bulk - maybe add about 12-13 pounds of lean muscle. Will take a while, I'm sure!

Thanks for the good advice Lane. It's only been within the last few years that I realized how important diet was in bodybuilding. I too wondered why my chest wasn't any bigger when I could bench 225. I'll definitely start counting my protein grams.

No, it's never too late. I started weight training at 37 years old, and now at 48 I'm getting into powerlifiting. I'm hoping to have at least one comp to my name before I turn 50 in July 07.

Happy Birthday, I just turned 44 on the 17th. I also just started lifting about 6 months ago, partied my butt off before that.
