how much protein can be absorbed in one meal?

Ive always thought the cut off point was 50-60 grams and anything over that in one sitting/shake is just a waste?

But I was just reading in the nutrition section and many of these guys seem to think that the maximum is 30 grams. That cant be right, can it?

I personally aim for 50 at every meal and consume atleast 300 grams per day.

There is no exact answer... there are too many variables:

    -Type of protein
    -Solid/Liquid protein
    -How Active you are
    -Last time Protein was ingested

    ^^just to name a few.

lets say you work out 5 days a week and eat every three hours. how much protein is too much for a solid meal? and a 50g whey shake takes an hour to digest from my understanding so thats easy, just dont eat any more protein, solid or powder, within an hour of having 2 scoops of whey or it will be a waste. Im asking in general what do you think?

I have heard that there is no limit.. that if you were to consume a ton of protein your body would just save it and metabolize it later. To say 50g is the max amount or w.e is just crazy.

I eat untill I feel like puking every meal. Clean and healthy meals at that too. I never count calories/carbs/protein etc. Eat clean and alot, and what your body won't utilize immediately will be used later or excreted out. Cannot go wrong either way.

I think the amount of muscle mass you have is the biggest factor. A weak little 150 pounder doesn't need as much protein as Jay Cutler. Your muscles use up amino acids which come from protein... the more muscle you have the more aminos you need to sustain.

This does not work for everyone. I got a friend very similar to you same height and mesomorphic build. Although instead of eating clean he eats a lot of junk food most the time and never gets fat.

His life revolves around when he will take is next dump, charming trade off.

I can get very fat very quick eating clean and did so with stretch marks as a result. People process food differently.

I have also heard 30. I was asking a bodybuilder at my gym the same thing and he was saying from what he knows around 30 give or take depending on the variables.... but around thirty, give or take a little. He was saying much over 30 is kind of a waste.

I usually try to stay around 35-45g an hour. There is no exact amount. Every person is different with weight, and how efficient their body is when absorbing protein. I've never seen an exact number. But I don't think you can eat as much protein as you can and your body will use it later. Then you could just eat/chug 250g in a few hours(if you don't puke that is), and you'd be good all day.

The real answer is there is no way to know for sure. Anyone who says 30g per meal is totally estimating and really has no idea or evidence to back it up.

here is some info i found

Originally Posted by VR4 View Post
    Hello pkk-ga,
In short, ~1% of the protein in your meal will not be absorbed and
pass through your system into your feces. If you have a 100g meal,
about 1 gram will resist absorption, if you eat 10 grams, .1 gram will
escape the absorption process, it is a relative amount depending on
the amount of protein in your meal rather than an absolute number.
Assuming that you are otherwise healthy and have no digestion
    problems.
The way protein absorption works is partially based on the
efficiency of your body's ability to properly digest (break down)
protein into it's amino acid subunits. This happens to a small degree
in the stomach but more so in the duodenum (the first of the three
compartments in the small intestine) the major absorption site of
protein is the jejunum (the second part of the small intestines). The
intestine normally will not absorb anything larger than a tri-peptide
(three amino acids linked together). There are 20 amino acids, and
their absorption happens through one of four types of transporters
responsible for absorbing specific types of amino acids or
tri-peptides. There is a specific transporter for neutral, acidic,
and basic amino acids, as well as a transporter for proline and
hydroxyproline. Sometimes the amino acids and tripeptides will
compete for absorption at these transport sites, hence the 1% that
does not get absorbed. The process by which food moves through the
intestine is so slow that by the time the food has moved though the
jejunum all but about one percent is absorbed.
As I said, the final absorption depends on the initial ability to
digest long protein chains into small absorbable amino acids, di- and
tri-peptides. Enzymes the body makes for protein digestion depend on
the kinds of proteins you eat. Since your body adapts your enzymes to
the foods you eat, this explains why long time vegetarians and vegans
become ill when they eat meat proteins. They cannot digest it anymore
because they lack the enzymes, and in that case they would have an
altered MEAT digestion rate and very low absorption. It is a
reversible process if they slowly make meat proteins a part of their
    diet again.
So again, you absorb ~99% of the protein you eat unless you have
some kind of illness altering your digestion or absorption or have not
eaten meat in a few years.

I hope this answers your question, please tell me if you need
    clarification.

I hope that is true... but it doesn't seem possible to me. If you chugged protein all day long non-stop, alot of that junk is going to be used for energy or stored as fat for energy later. Protein isnt a magical macro that automatically turns into muscle, its first use will be for energy just like anything else. Long story short, we dont know so just eat all the damn protein you want!!

What I've heard the average person can absorb about 25 grams of protein for one meal. It's personal, some people can absorb more some people less. And the protein that is not absorbed can be stored as fat.

Supplement companies recommend to take 2 grams of protein per kilo of body weight. I think it's insane. When I was taking protein in that dose I used to take a **** like three times per day. Taking a large amount of protein is unhealthy. It's bad for one's liver and kidneys. Of course, it's not about natural food. A piece of chicken is way better than two protein shakes.

    400g?!

just go with what encompasses the norm..

    30-40g every 2.5 to 3hrs

    or

1g to 1.5g per pound of bodyweight

and then tailor it to suit you from there

Then you could just eat/chug 250g in a few hours(if you don't puke that is), and you'd be good all day.
35-45 grams of protein per hour? So in an 8 hour workday you consume 320 grams? Over 12 hours almost 500? You're 5'9" 160 lbs? !!!!!!

I think why they say that over thirty is a waste is because theoretically you can on absorb 10 grams a hour and if ur eating every 3 hours as u should all 30 grams will be absorbed by the next meal

This one time I ate a giant steak (it had like 150 grams of protein) and when I went to shit about half of the steak came out, completely undigested. Like, you could see the steak.

So... I'd say don't eat more that 75 grams of protein or you'll have to sift through your shit and re-eat it.
