Daniel Craig, overrated physique?
I was prompted to start this by the occasional comments admiring Daniel Craig's physique.
Of course there's nothing wrong with that if it inspires guys to workout and improve there looks, but does Daniel Craig really look that good?
I beg to differ, we tend to get the same images of him emerging from the sea in Casino Royal were he looks good. But I suspect these publicity pictures have been messed about with.
Venture further with a Google image search and capture him normally I feel he really isn't anything special at all.
I commented on another forum that I felt I looked better, and got blasted!
Looking at these images I feel even more confident that I'm a good deal more muscular and in better all round shape than the bond actor.
I also detect an 'old look' creeping into his physique in some pictures, something I feel hasn't quite got to me yet and he's 8 years my junior.
Even without bragging on about my arms, I certainly have a bigger back and more impressive V taper, better legs, and a tighter waist.
Ok I'm flexing in most of mine but I really don't imagine for one minuet that Mr Craig is going to look any better doing the same poses.
Am I deluded? What do you think?

Yeah, I don't understand all the hype really.. He's got a decent chest on him..
As far as yourself comparing to him, you have got him in arms, taper and over-all muscularity and size... Getting rid of that chest hair should show a better picture when comparing..

I think he has the type of physique women find attractive. His legs are a bit on the skinny side though.
You have a good build too, although you are carrying a fair bit more fat than Danny Boy. If you leaned out to his level I think you'd both look similar except you'd be a tad more muscular, especially in the arms and legs.

Yes Clive - you are deluded.
While Craig is not massive, and doesn't have as big arms as you do, his body is a lot better looking than yours. Sorry.
From all the photos you've obviusly collected, I think you have a little man-crush on him how cute!

Its hard to tell with the carpet on your chest, and the fact your flexing and hes not.
You definatly have bigger arms than him thats for sure, but his body fat % is alot lower than yours giving him the tight look.
And he does have that kinda unique athletic/muscular physique woman love.

When you look at all the actors who have played James Bond, most of them were not that muscular. Yes, they were in good shape, however, they were not bodybuilders. For the most part their bodies looked average.

That is mostly true apart from Sean Connery. He was a (pretty good) bodybuilder in his early days.

To the OP. He's leaner then you, showing more definition and his abs are more visible then yours. I would probably say you have a better body then mr. craig if you lower your bodyfat and maintain your muscles. However, girls do like the cut up, lean broad shoulders, small waist athletic look, instead of some bouncer ripped guy.

"Venture further with a Google image search and capture him normally I feel he really isn't anything special at all. "
Well, I think normally is your key word there. The body he had for Casino Royale isn't how he normally looks, and he's said as much himself. So it's kind of like saying how people admire Gerard Butler's physique and then comparing yourself to his normal body.
You don't quite look as good as Craig, but that's down being a somewhat higher bf percentage.

no offense man but it looks like the only thing you're beating him in is arms
while he isn't massive, hes got a lean aesthetic physique, with a fairly developed looking upper body
you look like you have some impressive arms, but hes got you beat in everything else

A hell of a lot more buff than Craig, anyway.

Cultural skew.
Let's also take into consideration that there are MANY standards of beauty, or well-built, or whatever you want to term it.
To presume that Physique Culture is the hallmark or standard subculture by which a "great body" is judged is a little sophomoric. Sure, Physique Culture often incorporates an amalgam of ideas about physique beauty. But in the end, it is merely one culture among many.
In short, I am talking about subjectivity. In this case, people's opinions about Craig are being led by more than one subculture.
So, take the compliments in context: it is not through bodybuilding or physique subculture alone which these compliments emerge. There's a the fashion subcultural viewpoint (which, favors skinny chicken legs, incidentally), the showbiz subcultural viewpoint (where the aesthetic is more subtle and less "big"), and even in this case some of the Eurocentric cultural viewpoint (which favors a less intense, more "commonly achieved" version of physical beauty).
So, I am more addressing the original poster's note that he has been "seeing a lot of posts complimenting Craig's physique" (paraphrase). Your comparison is viable only from the viewpoint of bodybuilding subculture, but not applicable as a gross, universal assessment. The compliments Craig receives are stemming from many sensibilities; you are here comparing him through the filter of only one.
On an ironic sidenote, this is a keen opportunity to mention how subcultures not only have their own aesthetics, but also their own attitudes. And Physique Culture is very much imbued with a centrist slant; meaning that the more identified one becomes with Physique Culture, then often the more one becomes convinced that Physique Culture is THE single, best and/or ultimate assessment of all bodies.
It's just the culture we exist in. Physique Culture is one filled with ideas of "locating superiority". And those ideas often blind us o the fact that, in truth, there is no one, single universal description of "best body", nor is there even a MAJORITY of opinion on the matter. I know that statement is near heresy in the ears of many involved with physique culture -- that there is no human majority opinion on "best body" -- but sadly for us, it seems the most true.
So, the opinions of Craig stand. Maybe not for you, or even within the greater Physique Subculture to which you identify. But, across the scope of all things, the comments have a LOT of weight.

I think it's just cause he's better looking all around. He might not be huge but he has good symmetry and a pretty low bodyfat.
I don't think his body is very desirable from a bodybuilding point of view but to average people he looks good.

Are those pics from Casino Royal shooting? I thought he looked real good in Casino Royal.... but I knew a lot of it was from the lighting in that dark basement where they beat the crap out of his nuts.
Ryan Reynolds looked real good in Blade Trinity, but again they really used the lighting to make him look better when he was also in the dark room getting the crap beat out of him by the wrestler guy.

Fair point to all the comments made, this thread was always going to be just a bit of fun.
But I have to say at the end of the day I'm happy how I look and given the choice I'll rather stay being me, and go for a bit more muscle rather than look a bit on the skinny side as I think Mr Craig looks.
The thing is, people only remember his physique from that beach scene, were he looked ok, but he worked out for that, from things he's said since I get the impression he's not into weight training and doesn't workout regularly.
So I suspect his physique is now less impressive than seen in that Bond movie.

I agree with you Clive.
Daniel Craig in the film looks trim and in great shape.
But nothing over the top.
No abs, just solid shoulders arms and slight upper chest.

heres a pic from the new trailer. One thing I noticed about hollywood now is not having the guys huge but proportioned to their frame like thomas jane in the punisher, daniel craig, brad pitt in troy and others. the reason they look good is because everything works together if you know what I mean.

I think the op's attitude is shared by many in the bodybuilding community, in that bigger = better. I think that this is a very narrow way to look at things. Not all people want to be huge and walk around with too much muslce that isn't really needed. There can be a point where too much muscle doesn't look very good and is just simply too much.
Call me crazy, but i'd rather look like daniel craig, bradd pitt, or ryan reynolds than jay cutler or ronne coleman. Not everyone wants to look like the incredible hulk.
