To start i would say 2000-2500 calories would be a good idea to bulk with, considering you are only 144 pounds your BMR would be much lower then people who weigh 160+.
However try to find out what your caloric intake is currently that you eat to maintain your weight, do this by tracking what you eat on a normal day, when you find out what it is just eat 500 calories more. By the end of a week if you havent gained any weight up it 100-200 more. If you did gain weight keep eating like that till you stop then i would up it 200 calories or more as you probally added LBM and your BMR is higher.
Try to keep gains at 1-2 pounds a week as you dont want to be adding on to much fat, also stay away from junk foods.Deport ALL Illegal Aliens

go with 2000 and increase by a few 100 per day, each week. When I started on this site I was 144lbs at 6ft, and people told me the same **** theyre telling you now, and I listened and ate about 2500 cals, MAXIMUM 3000, and I got so ****ing fat. So start slow, 2000 might well be enough to gain

I feel you - this sites made me fat LOL - JK.
I started bulking at 152 - not at 156, so ive gained 4lbs in 3 weeks and im not freaking out but I am fattening up and Im not to excited about it. I wasnt eating enough before but I am trying this 40/40/20 at 2500 calories and sticking pretty close to it and im thinking im gaining to fast. I may cut it back to 2300 - I do feel stronger but I also feel by belly expanding.......its so hard to get into the BULK mindset if you were once overweight - im trying but I cant say Ill stick to BULKING for like 3 months at a time and I dont know of 1 month bulk, and some time mainting/slow gaining, and then cutting really makes sense.
