    elbow pain!

hi i think i have tennis elbows from lifting, i moved up in weights fairly quickly and notice pain only in my right elbow up towards middle of my bicieps. I stop durning winter break for two weeks and it felt fine, but when i went back it didnt hurt till 2weeks into working out again and i stop again for 2weeks . Now my left elbow is in pain last night my left elbow was in serious sharp pain when ever i bent my arm or did anything to it were it never felt like that before even with my right elbow even though i havnt been working out for 2weeks now. i think i got it from lifting stuff around the house i took some ibuprofen and went to bed and today it feels okay again what else can i do ? its like sharp pain that comes on and off again when i flex my arm or bend it from my elbow to the middle of my bicieps last night pain was in the back of my arm but usually its all around pleasee help. btw i usally ice my lebow down for 30mins but i stop cause i havnt been goin to the gym and wastn feeling pain thankss

I had the same thing.. Never take anythign to musk the pain cause the slightest movment could tear the joint muslces more and you wont know it...

Just keep icing and do lots of high rep excerese to help it heal faster... Lay off bench and back till you can lift without pain.. It'll need a week or two to rest to get some bb'ing magizines and enjoy the break.. Train it every other night, just lightly enough to get the blood and nutrients packed in there.. Vary the rep speeds and really work it in, it shouldnt hurt too much when you do it... Try 5lb weights or eleastics to get it back to normal, hope this helps.

what do you mean by train it every other night ?

also i took 2weeks off durning winter break and then went back to the gym lifting lightly on everything but bench press where i finally could bench 135lb like 5 times 3reps. a week or two pass and the pain came back again on my right elbow and now i took another 2weeks off and now my left elbow was in extreme pain last night from lifting light weight boxes around the house and stuff.

soak your elbows in ice water 3 times daily for 20 minutes it should help with the pain an speed up the healing process.

Hate to disagree with a poster but I would recommend that you do consider taking an anti-inflammatory such as Mortrin. It doesn't mask pain, it reduces swelling of the tissue therefore allowing for blood flow to heal the area. I would recommend that you use 600-800 of Motrin with food 4x a day for 4-6 days. I would still consider, iceing, but only at 20 minute intervals if it is post a workout. With ice you are trying to reduce swelling thereby increasing bloodflow to the affected joint/tissue. If it is been several days post work out and it is still painful, I would use heat (either heating pad or saturating a hand towel half way and zapping it in a microwave but make sure you have a thin layer of cotton between your bicep/elbow area and the towel). The heat will dialate the vessels and help to reduce the swellling and get the blood flow going to heal naturally.

An evaluation of technique would also be advised as this is reoccurring. And of course if it continues I would see a health care provider that has a specialty in sports medicine.

In case you did not see it in my previous post. I suggest reading this article and invest in some tennis elbow bands.
