    Shoulder popped out..

When I was benching today, on the last rep my shoulder popped out, as though it was dislocating, then popped back in, it hurt pretty bad and it is kinda painful to do some movements with it. I was wondering if anyone knew how long I should wait before I can start exercising with it again.

Hm..as long as it doesnt interfer with other exercises, dont worry too much about it. Lay off doing shoulder and chest exercises for about one to two weeks. Sounds like a long time, but my dad had the same problem..and he just layed off benchin for awhile. Ofcourse it sucks going back to the gym and not having the same strength as you did one or two weeks ago..but do you really want to make it worse and not be able to do it at all?

if u can, i would see a trainer or something. i dont kno very much, but if u cant get to one i would see a doctor. we had a kid on my football team who dislocated his shoulder ripping some of the tendens in his shoulder. he played 2 games of his senior year... and it was a rough year at best.

better be safe then sorry with this i would think, would do more harm then good to keep working on it.

Nope! i don't go to the gym, I use my home weights. I could still push it off easy enough. I just dont want to irritate it.

I actually went to a specialist for this same problem. except it kept happening to me, its good to do some shoulder exercises to help build the muscle up, but probably with less weight.

The socket where the arm connects to the base of the shoulder is a bit more open for me and im guessing you so the shoulder is looser making it possible for it to pop out.

This is what I'm thinking, when the weigh gets over 150 lbs, its a pain in the ass to push it off.
    Height - 5'10"
    Bodytype -Pure Ectomorph

    SW - 110 lbs (June 2005)
    CW - 153 lbs (November 2006)
    GW - 170 lbs (June 2007)

    Bench - 155
    ATG Squat - 135
    Deadlift - 185

    Yeah I know I suck.

happened to me doing inclines. My shouler really hasn't been the same since. I can crack it sometimes, never used too. One time I sat down and I "felt" that feeling when a joint can be cracked, and my shouler was like shifted up and not moving around in the joint, so I pushed it forward and it made a big popping noise and went back. Didn't hurt, but I didn't like it.

When it happened it was sore for a while. It kinda fixed itself a bit. I went to tackle a friend and I jumped and put my arms on his shoulders. It pushed and popped down, hurt like a mother. I thought I'd messed it up bad, but the next day it was like that original injury never happened.

you should let it chill, i hurt my rotator cuff and didnt give it enough time to heal and it hurt my lifts and took over a year to get better, then ironicaly enough i seperated the same shoulder and its got arthritis now. summer sucks because whenever its really humid out i can tell when its gonna rain cause my shoulder swells up and hurts. shoulder/military presses i can barely do anymore and its gotta be low weight or i get the same almost popped out feeling and it sucks. trust me, let yourself heal.

Happened to me when twisting weight for the incline dumbell press at the top of the movement. Popped right out then right back in. I took two weeks off and was good to go. Shoulder bothered me for a good 4 months till I couldn't notice it anymore. Its a Real pain. Sorry to give you the bad news bro. But this may not be the same for you.
    Good Luck,
    Tim Colman

Yeah I will rest it up for two weeks... Damn. Better safe than sorry I guess. I was doing a wide arm bench, so I will pull my grip closer together when I start back up again.

Dude this happens to me alot, its like where the deltoid joins the armpit, the upper area. It feels like someone pulled your damn shoulder out and it pulled itself back. This happens to be when playing sports (happen to be in volleyball, football AND basketball, but never when I lift) its a searing pain for about 4-5minutes. But I just wait the 5 minutes until the pain is gone and I go back to it.

But this really hurt me because now its very hard to do dumbbell flys, so watch out.

damn this must not have been a very severe dislocation. My buddy's shoulder completely popped out playing football 2 years ago and had to get popped back in by a doctor. It didn't look natural at all; more like it was just flopping around as he walked back to the sideline. He wasn't able to lift or play football the rest of the year as well.
