Ten pounds in one week. Instead of starving yourself for the week just eat lighter and healthier for six days, work out hard, then use the last day to drop water weight. If you diet too hard too early you will be too weak to be worth a damn. You have to eat healthy too workout hard leading up to the weigh in. By the way, what and where are you wrestling at in one week?

Weight cutting is part of wrestling take it or leave it, although i do agree the wrestling weight loss is far different than bodybuilding. In wrestling all that matters it the weight as long as you get there it doesnt matter how you do it, but in bodybuilding you're trying to maintain a physique as opposed to a weight. hehe i dominate all in weight cutting my record is 14 pounds in two days gained it back in 3 days though.

Nobody ever said it made you stronger but it's an advantage trust me, you're weaker but you'll still be stronger than the kids in your class plus you have an hour and a half btwn weigh in and the actual match to replenish at least some of what you lost. If it made you weaker than the kids in the weight class you drop down to ppl wouldn't be doing it for the entire wrestlign eternity.

Also powerlifting is pure strength so preserving it is more of a priority than in wrestling.

Because it's an advantage, people can argue it all day but it still doesn't change the fact that cutting weight is an advantage. When you're at a very high level everybody has incredible technique in comes down to who can have the biggest advantage by competing at the lowest weight. There's a saying in wrestling that goes, "He'd be a good wrestler at 145, a great wrestler at 140, and a state champ at 135," haha its the most true statement about cutting I've ever heard. If you ever watch the NCAA's or national prep championships the guys that wrestle at 160 look like they should weigh about 190, haha and they do but only in the off season.

If everybody in your division is cutting weight how is it an advantage? I'd imagine one who is strong and has a relatively low bf would do better off than someone who is strong, but cuts a ton of weight to compete with "smaller" ppl. Just my take, but then again I'm not a wrestler.

We arent going to agree so I won't say anything else It's something only wrestlers usually understand and appreciate. (appreciate wasn't the word i was looking for but I couldnt think of nething else)

for such a comment i should come back with an equally immature comeback since i am on the teen boards...

...lets just say i could break you in half in wresteling bigarmed...i wrestled from the time i was 7 till 13 its what really got me into lifting even though i didn't get serious until i was 15, i have many medals and ribbons for my comps. i've competed every where from fort wayne indiana to llondon, kentucky....when i moved to florida where there is no wresteling teams, i stopped....fair enough?
I've seen a 15 year old deadlift 440 lbs. first time ever touching a weight
I've witnessed a begginer increase there total 350 lbs. the first month
I myself can show you men bench pressing 821 lbs. men deadlifting nearly 940 lbs. men squatting 1104 lbs.
Powerlifting the sport of imposibility to Bodybuilders everywhere

The most you could realistically lose healthily in a week would be about 5lbs. 3lbs of fat/muscle ( you'll lose some muscle inevitably unless you can drastically increase your lifts cutting which is unlikely ) and maybe 2lbs of water. This is for a first week of cutting when you'll lose more water than usual. After that no more than 2 1/2 3 1/2lbs a week. 3 1/2lbs is very optimistic too and not the case for most providing you train intelligently, eat well, and can make a very large effective deficit between your calories taken in and expenditure.

It's very unhealthy. Take in some calories around midday too. It won't do any harm providing you don't make a habit of it. Next time try and get your weight down in time. If you've got until next Friday, you can still cut healthily eating well with very intense workouts and cardio and drop maybe 6lbs or so that way. Not 10 though.

Loosing ten pounds in a week and a half for a moderately conditioned athlete with a moderately high bodyfat (just guessing because of the plus 200 weight class) should not take just very much strength as long as a healthy amount of calories is maintained and workout are made more intense. You can easily lose between 6-8 pounds by next Thursday and then dehydrate right before you weigh in. Assuming you have a 24 hour period post weigh in, you will have plenty time to rehydrate. I wrestled throughout highschool and college and now coach at the college level, "cutting weight" is something that is common at lower levels were wrestlers look at extreme diets as substitues for hard work. At the college level, athltetes have to abide by strick weight rules which are based on bf% and urine osmosis (check for dehydration) so intense workouts take the place of crash diets. For the well conditioned athlete, intense workouts coupled with healthy eating take very little strength.

You having to drop 10lbs in a week just shows how un-dedicated u were throughout the season, and in the off season. I knew i was going to have to wrestle 157 this year at college, and i was at 180 in janurary, so i started cutting then now im at 157 and im still as strong as i was when i was 180. You cant do this high school BS where you just lose a ton of weight in the last week or few days, you become useless on the mat.

Dont know if you wanna try or not, but I dropped from 192 - 180 in about a week when I went on keto. It was mostly water weight but itll get the job done on the scale.

i know it isnt healty, but i have really long bulking phases because thats what i like to do. halloween was the end of my 2 year bulking phase!!! but whenever i cut, i dont do it the healthy way, I lose as much weight in as little time as i can. usually 10 pounds a week for the first couple weeks and 6-7 pounds a week after that until i am done cutting. although i do lose some size, i seem to keep my strength better cutting like this because i gain so much excess in my long bulking periods that i have to go on a 6 month cutting cycle if i do it the right way. so dont say that you cant lose more than 3 pounds a week. maybe 3 pounds of pure fat, yes. today is tuesday, and i weighed in at 295. last thursday, 5 days ago, i was 305.5.
Why use ripped fuel when you can just smoke a couple rocks?

Your bodies aint worth my gun!

The wreaper keep on callin me, but I dont ever holla back, When I get to hell I wanna smoke weed and sell crack, I dont give a fuk if its cold or if its hot, Cuz hell aint **** but a brand new dope spot.

Well what I said is for a person of normal or near normal weight. I didn't know you were 300lbs. You can probably add a small amount to those numbers for someone your size, but still I would say no more than 4 - 4 1/2lbs a week. Anymore than that and you're definitely losing muscle and losing more water than you should.

Uh yea they all cut, cutting in college is even more prevalent than in high school, I guarantee you Dan Gable cut and back then they used even more extreme methods. Tom Brands would step on to the mat 15 pounds heavier than he had weighed in at.

Gable was MY coach(86-89) and he NEVER cut. He even went up at the Olympics. Brands never strayed more than five pounds.
