    Exclamation should I start taking whey protein supplements

    I've been working out for about 4 or 5 months now. I'm 6' 2" and I started at 173 lbs and I am now at 192 lbs. I've havnt taken any supplements before, and I'm just wondering if there are any gains to be had from them. I've read that whey protein supplements are the cheapest for protein supplements and that they don't lack too much from the more expensive of the protein supplements. Like I said I gained 19 pounds in 4 - 5 monthswith the 2 on 1 off routine and just changed to a 3 on 1 off routine. Overall I'm happy with my gain but if the protein supplement could help speed up the process then the all the better. My goal is 210 lbs by summer.

    Hey Kevin,

    You should def pick up some protein. IMO The best protein is Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey Protein which is about $20 with taxes and all. It has about 24 grams of protein 120 calories and tons of amino acids. With all the amino acids you will be recovring much quicker from your workouts , and only see benefits from protein shakes. However you dont need to go overboard and drink 3-4 shakes a day, one is enough for a post workout meal depending on how much meals you get a day. Also you should get about 6-8 meals a day and try eating peanutbutter sandwhcihes theyll help you gain the mass in no time

    So go for it man !

    i definately agree.
    but if you wanna make gains, you should also be taking a multi vitamin/fish oils.
    I recommend Twinlabs one daily.
    And, any brand of fish oils is good i think.

    hell ya whey protien should have been on your diet the first week!

    your 170 lbs.. u need about 1.5g of protien for every lb so about 255 grams a day.. get about 125 g from shakes.. that should be about 3-4 depending on your shake.. get the rest from meats..

    also get a good multi vit...

    yup
    omega 3 fatty acids (fish pill) are good
    also flax seed oil for the lubrication of your joints

    and if u fell like wasting your money L- glutamine... worked for me

    Get 125g of protein from shakes? 3-4 shakes a day? I personally think that is too much.. he'd be better off eating meats and such than drinking so many shakes. Like shlomo said.. 1 post workout is good.. 2 scoops worth or w/e.

    IMO multivitamins are not that important for making gains ive been making gains for a while and not been on any multi...

    as far as the glutamine i menitoned before there are several protein shakes now adays loaded with amino acids

    extra aminos and bcaa's are always good...

    and to rugby one 23 g shake isnt all he needs then how is he gonna get the other 230+ grams of protien all from meat milk and what not he will then be eating unnessicary calories carbs and what not.. 3 shakes is good one in morning pre and post workout .. thats wha i do 5 meals a day plus shakes

    You dont have to rely on protein shakes to gain mass, Ive been gaining and gaining mass without protein shake for about 2 months now , and I do get all my neccesarry nutrients from food , however amino acids i dont get .Taking 3 shakes a day is a prefrence and IMO is only neccesarry if you dont get enough meals

    What I'm asking though is will it make a difference great enough to make it worth taking. Like I said i gained 19 pounds in 4 or 5 months. Would it have made a noticable difference over the 19 pounds.

    He drinks like half of his protein from shakes. I personally do not think its good and why would he get unnecesary carbs? eating a chicken breast? tuna.. I don't see any/much of carbs there at all. Remember shakes are cool but food is the best. Besides I'm not saying he should take 1 shake a day... 2 is good and he can add more than one scoop. I take 2 shakes a day.
