I've been doing db shoulder presses for sometime. Been lifting not quite 2 years. I seem to have hit a plateu, as whenever I try to go w/80lb db's I hurt myself or wear down quick. 75's I can get my 3x8 in, but 80's just kick my ass. I don't want to risk ANOTHER injury on this excercise (long story) but am transferring over to smith machine mil. press since I lift alone and don't have a spotter to help me get the 80's up. I think I can press them, but just can't get from resting up to the parallel w/floor that I need to start the excercise. Anyway, I know w/smith machine I'm going to lose stabalizer muscles, but I'm wondering other than stabalizing, is it going to hurt my look? If I do smith machine (I started today at 165lbs) and say get up to 200lbs, and then try to go back lifting the 80's, will it be a breeze, or is it still going to kick my ass because of the motion, and the stabalizers and such? Thanks for reading.

My form is elbows straight out from my side, upper arms parallel w/floor, raise db's up overhead, back down to parallel, repeat. Isn't that correct? I can do 3 sets of 8 at 75lb db's, but just can't get those 80's w/out feeling it.
