I think we should take him at his word. He really doesn't come across as a dishonest person, does he? And besides, why would he lie? What is there to gain? Maybe if he said "I'm going to retire, and this will be my last competition" you could make the argument that he wanted to sway the judges, but he isn't doing that. He is just retiring. So why would he lie?
I for one believe him.

He's "retired" before, that's the point. I think that he loves bodybuilding as a whole, even though we all know he hates the dieting, and he'll be back. If not... well, best of luck to him.

I could see it the commitment to get ready for a contest and because of his height he will never win no matter how complete he comes in. Where in car racing its very black and white first car passes thew finish line wins, not murky grey like bodybuilding.
