Are you a good wife?
Rules for Wives 50 yrs ago! OMG!
-Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious
meal ready on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that
you have be thinking about him and are concerned about his needs. Most men
are hungry when they come home and the prospect of a good meal (especially
his favourite dish) is part of the warm welcome needed.
-Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you'll be refreshed when he
arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be
fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people.
-Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may
need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it.
-Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the
house just before your husband arrives. Run a dustcloth over the tables.
-Over the cooler months of the year you should prepare and light a fire for
him to unwind by. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and
order, and it will give you a lift too. After all, catering for his comfort
will provide you with immense personal satisfaction.
-Minimize all noise. At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of the
washer, dryer or vacuum. Encourage the children to be quiet.
-Be happy to see him. Greet him with a warm smile and show sincerity in your desire to please him.
-Listen to him. You may have a dozen important things to tell him, but the
moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first - remember, his
topics of conversation are more important than yours.
-Make the evening his. Never complain if he comes home late or goes out to
dinner or other places of entertainment without you. Instead, try to
understand his world of strain and pressure and his very real need to be at
home and relax.
-Your goal: To try and make sure your home is a place of peace, order, and
tranquillity where your husband can renew himself in body and spirit.
Don't greet him with complaints and problems.
-Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or have him
lie down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him.
Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soothing
and pleasant voice.
-Don't ask him questions about his actions or question his judgment or
integrity. Remember, he is the master of the house and as such will always
exercise his will with fairness and truthfulness. You have no right to
question him.
A good wife always knows her place.

Here's a joke along those lines:
A woman accompanied her husband to the doctor's office.
After his checkup, the doctor called the wife into his office alone. He says, "your husband is suffering from a very severe disease, combined with horrible stress. if you don't do the following, your husband will surely die."
"Each morning, fix him a healthy breakfast. be pleasant, and make sure he is in a good mood. for lunch make him a nutritious meal. for dinner prepare an especially nice meal for him. Don't burden him with chores, as he probably had a hard day. Don't discuss your problems with him, it will only make his stress worse. and most importantly make love with your husband several times a week and satisfy his every whim. If you can do this for the next 10 months to a year, I think your husband will regain his health completely."
On the way home, the husband asked his wife, " what did the doctor say?"
"You're going to die," she replied.

Now that the majority of women work, I think we can start adapting the rules so that men can start doing the same things for us. After all, if the whole point of doing all of those things is because of the hard work put in during the day, then what's good for the gander is good for the goose.

If I was able to, I would be the ultimate housewife. If our finances allowed and my sanity wasn't at stake, all of the above with exception to being the silent wifey would be done (i've just got too big of a mouth and opinion, lol) But at the moment I work ten hours a day and I'm up at 3 am so he'll just have to deal with a couple hot meals a week But I make bulk!!
If the traditional family structures were more prevalent I think that list would be totally doable.

I'm a stay at home mother, and I don't do any of those things! Ok, yes, I cook fresh food, but that's mostly because I won't eat junk and because my kids have allergies. Apart from that, my day is spent running round, collecting children, doing community work, going to the gym, looking after animals, helping with homework, bring kids to taekwondo, ladybirds, brownies, religion and a bunch of other stuff. If my house gets hoovered once a month, I'd doing well.

Sure it would be doable. But I would refuse most of it. Cooking and caring for my husband/home is one thing. Being his silent, subservient maidservant is another, I'm no door mat...

I've been through very brief stints where I am not working and my man is supporting me and I am very happy to do most of those things listed and I certainly do. If I was financially supporting someone I would expect them to do the same damn thing. Except I don't make things quiet in the house for him and I sure as hell don't shut up lol. But my friends and boyfriends all say that is part of my charm.

The idea of having an equal marriage is just an idea - it truly is impossible to be balanced.
I could cook all damn day for my husband, keep the kids quiet, the house clean, appreciate him and all that BS but he'd still be a jerk to everyone at the end of the day - so why bother?

I dunno....a third wheel might interfere with this rule :
Your goal: To try and make sure your home is a place of peace, order, and
tranquillity where your husband can renew himself in body and spirit.

I had to do a presentation in my gender COM class last semester - and we used this for it! We were studying women's movements. There were 3 girls in my group and 1 guy, and I after I introduced our topic and continued to read some of this, I said, "And if it's ok with the man in the group, we'd like to continue." There's actually an instructional video too - we found it on youtube! It was a pretty fun presentation to do!

I might help my hubby renew himself in body and spirit, as long as that spirit is a nice cabernet and he shares.

Well - we're all so off topic.
Original question was "Are you a good wife" and my answer is "nope"

We have vibrators (can I say that?),our own damn money, girls night out and sperm banks...cheers to next Valentine-s Day. Must be the New old Fashion.
