G Diesel's JOURNEY Log
What’s up fellas? I’ve been here for a little while now, and while I’ve had fun answering questions and shedding some light on various Universal Nutrition and Animal products, I figured I’d take an opportunity to put myself in the mix.
Inspired by Wrath’s “Journey” at Animalpak.com http://www.animalpak.com/journey/index.cfm I figured I’d talk about my own personal journey--my goals, plans and aspirations… On a short-term scale. The way I see it, we all have our own journey, and as such, this could be a place to come and talk about our day… Our eating, training, supplementation. This should be a place for encouragement and positive reinforcement. Where if you cheat on your diet or have a ****ty training session, you can get some support and motivation. This is a place to come and discuss a new mass recipe or protein shake you designed or to talk about a personal best on a lift or new exercise you tried.
As for my stats, I’m 27 yrs. old and have been lifting seriously for about 9 yrs. I’m 5’11” and somewhere in between 246 and 250 lbs at around 15% BF, depending on the time of day. I started casually lifting weights for basketball at the age of 15 when I weighed about 140 lbs. I have no AAS history, but I did dabble in the first generation prohormones and I’m a big believer in supplements. I’ve never competed, though I do plan to at some point in the future. I typically train 5 days a week on this training split and I haven’t missed a scheduled bodypart in several years:
Tuesday: Back
Wednesday: Arms
Thursdsay: Legs
Friday: Chest
Saturday: Delts
Sunday: Off
Monday: Off
Some weeks, if I feel too beat up or overtrained, I’ll split arms up on two of my other training days and add an extra day of rest. I train abs and calves 2 to 3 times a week.
As far as diet goes, on training days I eat as clean as possible in the 4500-5000 kcal range and about 400g of protein. I typically eat 4 whole food meals a day and 3-4 whey shakes/gainers. On my days off, I try to maximize my calories by doing a little bit of cheating—this serves multiple purposes in that it helps me to maintain my sanity and it gives me something to look forward to. Also, it makes eating clean on training days so much easier.
My supplement regimen includes the following: Animal Pak, Animal Nitro & Nitro G, Uni-Liver, Real Gains, Shock Therapy, Storm, Whey protein, Flaxseed caps, Glutamine and ZMA.
My short term goal is to get up to a hard and consistent 260. I’m a big believer in getting yourself to a certain baseline bodyweight and giving your body time to adapt and refine that size. I’m going to be training balls out leading up to the Arnold Expo and beyond.
So, if you’re with me and you have your own journey to share, or if you just need to light a fire under your ass--something we all need from time to time, this your place. Let’s help each other get big. Peace, G

Training back today... First day of the training rotation. Why does back come first? Everybody on the planet trains chest on Monday... Mondays are "National Chest Day." The way I see it back was the bodypart that separated Yates and Coleman from the rest of the pack... It is that important... That is why it gets top priority. Chest is reserved for Friday, kinda like a reward for a week of hard training.
What will today's workout bring? Right now I'm thinking something like this:
Front Pulldowns: 4 sets
Barbell Rows: 4 sets
*Freestanding DB Rows: 3 sets
Narrow Grip Pulldowns: 3 sets
Hyperextensions: 3 sets
*The DB rows are done with no support, no bench, nothing to lean on, and as such are made even more difficult than usual.
Really trying to ramp up my calories today... Been eating 16oz. of cottage cheese everyday (got them on sale for $1 a tub). Each container has 56g of protein and 0g of fat. Also trying to add a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter to each meal (2 tbsp = 190 kcals) for extra calories and protein. I've got cheap steak and a plain yam waiting for me for lunch... mmm good.
Will update soon. Peace, G

Thanks for the support, Dallas... Got a long way to go, bro.
Had a great back workout on Thursday... Bent over barbell rows, Dorian style 315 x 10, 365 x 6 were the highlights. DB's now only go to 120's so I did my last two sets of DB rows with those for 12 reps. Drank Nitro G mixed with grape Shock Therapy while I trained. Took a pack of Nitro postworkout and then drank 70g of whey on my ride home. Had steak twice on Tuesday, which is always a good thing--I try to eat red meat at least once daily. Took yesterday off to rest and attend to business. Ate well and pretty clean overall (plain tuna and rice for lunch) considering it was a rest day.
I've got legs tonight and I'm formulating my workout as I type this. I'm over 100g of protein by 11 am which is a good pace... I have about 15 oz. of chicken breast with a yam waiting for me for lunch--can't wait.

What's up G, i'm just wondering when u eat plain tuna and rice, do u eat the rice plain too or u put some sort of dressing on it? i think tuna with whole wheat bread and eggs is pretty good too, it kinda get rid of the fishy taste.

Yeah man, it is kinda plain... I do what I can to make that kind of clean eating more tolerable like adding fat free cream of chicken or mushroom soup or chicken broth to the rice and making a casserole. Yesterday I just added some spices, so it was rough... Very dry. It was mouthful of tuna and rice, swig of diet coke... Repeat. Today is pretty clean again with marinated chicken breasts and plain yams... Not particularly looking foward to it. Somedays I'll have the lipton noodles or rice and sauce with my steak or chicken... But you can't eat that sh*t everyday. Peace, G

No, bro, I've never seen that as a problem... However, I've never exactly considered myself to be all that tall. That isn't to infer, however, that I haven't had to kill myself for my gains and that I don't have so much further left to go. Yesterday's workout is a perfect example:
Leg Extensions: 4 sets x 15-10 reps
Flite Plate Loaded Squat Machine: 4 45's x 12, 8 45's x 12, 12 45's x 12, 16 45's x 12
Barbell Squats: 225 x 12, 315 x 12, 405 x 12
Lying Leg Curls: 4 sets x 15-12 reps
Standing Unilateral Leg Curls: 3 sets x 12 reps
Icarian Machine Calf Raises: 5 sets x 20-12 reps
Ab Machine: 4 sets x 25 reps
Ate close to 2 lbs. of chicken breast yesterday and got about 150g of protein from shakes. I've got chicken breast with some penne pasta coming up next, which is far more delectable than the chicken and yams from yesterday. Training chest tonight and will follow that with a big steak for dinner. Will update soon. Peace, G

Nah bro... No need, once a day for Storm should do just fine. Maybe twice a day max depending on how heavy you are. Glad you liked the Real Gains.

I generally drink 3 shakes a day... If I'm using Real Gains I'll have 2 a day in 1% milk, usually first thing in the AM and before bed. It would be perfect for situations where you have to go 3-4 hrs. without a whole food meal.

Good to hear from you bro... As for deads, man, I haven't maxed out on deads in years. I find that my lower back is shot by the time I'm done with barbell rows and db rows. I usually use 225 to 315 for reps at the end of my back workout just for feel, sometimes up to 405. About 3 yrs. ago I did 505 for a double, but that is the most I've ever attempted. I use deads to really try to crimp and flex all of my back muscles and focus on finishing off my lumbars. I've got back tonight, so we'll see what happens. Peace, G

the numbers keep rising! haha....makes sense bodybuilders should rather use weights for aesthetic appeal not strength 100% or they powerlifters thats true

Had a good weekend of training but I'm definitely feeling sore and beat down after spending my usual day of rest shoveling... We got hammered with about 20" of snow in my neck of the woods. I ate clean on Friday and Saturday, but not enough carbs.
My chest workouts have been a bit of a struggle of late, but my strength goes in up and down cycles as my CNS responds to my typical overtraining... About 2 months ago I was at the strongets I have ever been. Did 315 x 5 on the incline (down from @ 8 a couple of months ago). Struggled with a couple on 335 (also really weak), 275 x 10 and 245 x 17. Followed that with decline barbell and cable crossovers. Then I did 10 sets of triceps followed by calves and abs.
Saturday, I trained shoulders, traps, bis, forearms, calves and abs. Had a strong workout, got a good pump... But I'm definitely overtrained. After taking yesterday "off" (other than shoveling for 2 hours), I'm gonna have to train back today, cuz I have to take my lady out for Valentine's Day tommorow... Looking forward to about a 20 oz. NY Strip, about 5 appetizers, some dessert and a bottle of red vino... Nice. Then it is back to business as usual on Wednesday.

What's up G, i got my third can of animalpak a few days ago, and one of the pill is pink, kinda strange. I know there shouldn't be pink pills in animalpak 'cause i used 2 cans already. so is there something wrong?

Peace, G

What's up G Diesel??
Me and you seem to have a similar training background and philosophy. I also got into weightlifting through basketball a little more than two years ago. At the time I was about 140 - 150, and I've managed to work my way up to 225 since then.
I hear you on Monday's being "National Chest Day"....at my gym it would be impossible to even attemp it, every machine is taken. I switched chest to Fridays also...by the time Thursday rolls around I'm normally pretty exhausted but having that chest workout on Friday motivates me to get my ass in the gym. Definitely a reward for putting in a good week.
Do you feel you have a primarily ectomorphic bodytype? Alot of basketball players seem to. I had the classic ectomorph build, but once I got into bodybuilding I definitely discovered some mesomorphic traits I wouldn't have thought I had....
