Let's Say Thanks in Support of Our Troops
Quote:
The mission of Let's Say Thanks is to provide a way for individuals across the country to recognize U.S. troops stationed overseas. By submitting a message through this site you have the opportunity to send a free personalized postcard greeting to deployed servicemen and women.
The postcards, depicting patriotic scenes and hometown images, were selected from a pool of entries from children across the country.
All you have to do is click on your favorite design and either select the message that best expresses your sentiment or draft a personal note. The postcards are then printed on the Xerox iGen3? Digital Production Press and mailed in care packages by military support organization Give2TheTroops?.
Xerox is committed to helping people across the nation express their gratitude to our troops overseas. The launch of this program is aimed at reminding them how much Americans appreciate their service.

ONE is Americans of all beliefs and every walk of life - united as ONE - to help make poverty history. We are a campaign of over 2.4 million people and growing from all 50 states and over 100 of America's most well-known and respected non-profit, advocacy and humanitarian organizations. As ONE, we are raising public awareness about the issues of global poverty, hunger, disease and efforts to fight such problems in the world's poorest countries. As ONE, we are asking our leaders to do more to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. ONE believes that allocating more of the U.S. budget toward providing basic needs like health, education, clean water and food would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the world's poorest countries.
ONE is nonpartisan; there's only one side in the fight against global AIDS and extreme poverty. Working on the ground in communities, colleges and churches across the United States, ONE members both educate and ask America's leaders to increase efforts to fight global AIDS and extreme poverty, from the U.S. budget and presidential elections to specific legislation on debt cancellation, increasing effective international assistance, making trade fair, and fighting corruption. Everyone can join the fight. The goal of ending poverty may seem lofty, but it is within our reach if we take action together as one. You can start now by joining the ONE Campaign and pledging your voice to the fight against extreme poverty and global AIDS.

***Worthwhile Causes***
NJ has something called the EMT training fund which lets volunteer members of first aid organizations obtain free training. Last week, Gov Corzine withdrew $4 Million dollars from the fund to balance his budget. He left $400,000 which is only enough for another 2-3 months.
Volunteer EMT's save taxpayers millions of dollars they would otherwise be spending on paid ambulance services. Please take 2 mins and send a quick email to distribution@njemsea.org letting them know you disagree with the Governor's decision. That email automatically goes to all of the NJ Legislators.
you can use this sample letter

Dear Sir / Madam
I am writing to you requesting your assistance in supporting New Jersey's Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's).
As you might know, Governor Corzine has withdrawn $4,000,000 from the EMT Training Fund in an effort to balance the State Budget. This withdrawal will leave $400,000 in the Fund as of 7/1/09. This Fund does not have a surplus - in fact, the fund expenses more than it takes in every year. This action by the Governor will rended the Fund defunct and force EMT's to pay for courses out of their own pocket. This action, in a recession where individuals do not have the disposable funds to pay for this training, is expected to force many volunteers out of EMS. Replacing these EMT's will be costly to municipalities.
This action by the Governor is especially unfair because:
- The EMT Training Fund is NOT tax money - it is a public trust created by legislature by taking $0.50 from each moving violation, and dedicating those funds to training EMT's.
- A $400,000 study commissioned by the Department of Health said the Fund was critical to the health of NJ's Emergency Medical Services and recommended expanding it.
- Replacing volunteer EMT's with paid staff will cost municipalities thousands of dollars per year. Reallocating the dedicated training funds will have dire effects on municipal budgets.
I need your support in this matter. I ask that you:
- Call or email the New Jersey Emergency Medical Services Educator's Association and pledge your support at 201-390-2608 / president@njemsea.org
- Urge the Governor's office to reconsider, and tell them your constituency strongly supports keeping the EMT Fund intact.
This matter is important to me, and it will likely affect how I vote in future elections. Please help us keep dedicated funding where it belongs - supporting individuals who donate their time to their communities and make our healthcare and domestic preparedness strong.
Thank you for your time in considering my request.
Sincerely,
YOUR NAME HERE

If you can join the facebook group "Help Get Lizzie on Oprah!!" and send this to all of your friends. I do not know this girl, but one of my friend's goes to school with her and knows her really well. We can all benefit from her story.
I can really feel this going somewhere. Please do all you can to support her and help her dream come true. Help get her story out there so more research can be conducted on these types of disorders.
If you really want, you can send Oprah a letter or do anything else possible to help this girl out! I will do everything I can to help her too!

Special Operations Warrior Foundation Fundraising Page
Special Operations Warrior Foundation Fundraising Page
Midshipman 2/C Luke Finney and I, Midshipman 3/C Blaine Tonking, will compete in the 2009 Arrowhead 135 Ultramarathon held this February. Each competitor is given 60 hours to traverse 135 miles by foot pulling a sled containing all necessary gear and clothing. The Arrowhead 135 is held on the Arrowhead Trail bordering northern Minnesota and Ontario, Canada, where temperatures can average -20 to -40F. This event serves as a true test of character and moral, mental, and physical fortitude.
Our reason and ultimate goal for running this race is to collectively raise $10,000 in honor of fallen warriors through the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. The SOWF provides free scholarship grants, financial aid, and educational counseling to the children of Special Operations personnel of all services who have been killed in an operational mission or training.
